I noticed the dot of my 405 nm laser from eBay has a very irregular shape - it's as if there is a large "solar prominence" sticking out of it. The camera I'm using doesn't capture the dot very well, but here is a rough picture: Does this mean the diode has defects, or is it normal?

Is there any quick and simple way to test if the driver of a laser has reverse polarity protection? I've heard one method is to run a very low reverse current through the driver and see if there is any flow, but I don't have any equipment that can generate such currents. I guess I could always...

Maybe a bit of bad news: the user's feedback has dropped from 98.4% to 98.2% over the past two weeks, and most of the complaints are from users that did not receive their item. I hope I won't be one of them. :O

I use my trusty old Nikon Coolpix S550. It's a great camera; the only downside is that it doesn't do night shots very well.

So I ordered a 405 nm laser from eBay on the 20th. As of this afternoon, it has not arrived yet. From what I gather, delivery times of up to two weeks are not uncommon if the if the item is shipped overseas. It's also the holiday season right now, so that will probably add at least a few days...

Are you saying the eBay lasers have a boost driver and can safely accept these voltages?
