What is the wavelength of true brown?

Darn, now I have coffee all over my screen .. and guess what .. it's BROWN !

What is the wavelength of pure violet?

For me, no single wavelength is violet .. I need red mixed in ..

    12x selfmade Beamexpander

I disagree .. 20% losses is great IMHO .. expander I made had like 90% losses ..

Surprising as it is, yes :D

    12x selfmade Beamexpander

I was thinking more about spot size at some distance ..

How about some technical details ? And before/after beam shots ?

    Laser sled/diode identification

As it is from DVD it will have IR an about 200mW red. 405 is in blueray, which has more complex optics, as it has 3 wavelengths in it.

    Pen laser vs usual laser

It's like buying screwdriver, or screwdriver in pen .. both are screwdrivers .. but one is just a gimmick with compromises so it fits in a pen ..

    Power or Power Density (Irradiance)

I know that quite well .. those lasers sure looks nice, with safety features and all. They are all good and you will get something for those additional money. Not power though I think, as these reds are rarely underspecs, even from random seller.

    Power or Power Density (Irradiance)

If you want to go cheap, go for those cheap reds, 200mW. Like this one: New Style red laser 200mW /adjustable [OLNRL200] - $45.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce It has focusable head, so you can focus it at any distance. I totally would recommend safety goggles though, especially since...

    Power or Power Density (Irradiance)

Blue would have roughly 1.5 time lower diameter, or roughly double power density then red .. if all other laser parameters would be the same. But they usually cannot be, so it is usually not as important. What is important, is what you want to burn. Different materials absorb different...

    Longest throw

I mean .. expander only lower divergence. Max throw = less div * more power. And one way to lower div is to use expander.

    Power or Power Density (Irradiance)

Any diode or DPSS laser needs optics of some kind, as beam from the device itself has high divergence .. up to 40 degrees for diode lasers. So even to get collimated (as close to parallel as possible) beam you need optics. There is also limit to how small the spot can be. Surprisingly to get...

    Longest throw

Well .. since beam expander decreases divergence .. it's kinda redundant statement .. But higher power will of course increase 'throw' ..

Estimate the mW of my laser?

Oh, you are actually right. I made the math wrong. I remember this cause my 200mW red does that in 10 seconds, and my other lasers according to this formula with about 10% error. So it is indeed more like 2000/time. I guess it also depends on the case, but I came over 5 different brands and...

Estimate the mW of my laser?

Focus it, and burn through black thin CD case. Then use formula: Power(mw) = 1000/time(sec) (edit: more like 2000/time .. check bellow in the thread) It's VERY rough, of course. From your description it sounds stronger then 70mW. Also 400mA is quite a lot ..
