    SF-AW210 stainless pen build

Ever since I saw some half inch stainless tubing at the hardware store, I knew I wanted to stick a laser in it. Here's what I came up with. I had to turn down the module to be able to press it in. The Micro Boost drive is soldered directly to the diode pins, and set to 210 mA. My switch is...

I thought there were no lasers in nature

I once read that natural lasing can occur in the Martian atmosphere. EDIT - DUH, I found it on the same site as the OP :p Laser History - Near Infrared Lasers on Mars and Venus

    Safety Glasses with Eyeglasses

I can speak for the OEM glasses. I have style 700 and 60, and either is comfortable over my glasses. I use the 700s the most often for ease of use. They come with very nice cases and cleaning cloths.

    In Dire Need Of Advice&Tips

I'm not sure if this is the most alarming first post I've read, or the most hilarious. Listen and understand; any attempt at DIY laser tattoo removal is bound to end in disaster. Real laser tattoo removal targets the pigments in your skin, not the skin itself (read through the wiki on this...

    My first DIY laser.

Do you have a multi meter and a test load? If so, I'd suggest you try it. It could be a good learning experience, and all you'll lose is a dab of solder and a little time. I'd think it would work with the proper resistor (I mean, that's what they do, right?) but I'm far far from an expert, and...

    My first DIY laser.

Fitting your diode into that module is no problem. It would simply drop in, and the little brass collar screws down to secure it. You'll need to solder wires onto the diode pins, since they won't stick out past the collar. That driver gives me pause. Unless it's adjustable, you might not be...

    Repairing my PHR-803T pointer.

An SF-AW210 diode will cost about $16, and I reckon it'll last near forever at that current (you meant mA instead of mW, didn't you?) Or you could just drop in another PHR. Some are pretty robust; others, not so much.

    First Red Build

If you can spare a little cash, pick up an Aixiz glass lens for that. Beam and dot quality will improve dramatically, and you'll get about a 10% power boost. Oh, and not the worst build ever. Plenty are DOA due to assorted mistakes :)

250mW red laser diode Death in a week

Alrighty. I stand corrected, then :)

250mW red laser diode Death in a week

It looks like you might be using a Micro Boost drive, which was designed to supply higher voltages needed by blue and violet diodes. As far as I know, it is not suitable for a red. You need a Micro Flex drive, I do believe. Stick a PHR on it! Sorry about the diode death. I'd recommend you pick...

Are there any single mode 445s out there?

I'm just wondering. I know they'd probably be expensive as all get-out with the lack of a consumer product to harvest them from. If they exist, what sort of powers might one expect?

    My batteries are screaming

Do they scream each time you plug them in? I'm thinking resonance in the protection circuits, like we see with drivers on occasion. EDIT - Thanks for posting. I just pulled 6 18650s out of a knackered laptop battery. Oddly enough, they all tested at 4.05 volts. Can a cell lose capacity without...

    Wax. . .

Here's a fun little experiment. All you need is a relatively high-powered laser (I've gotten this to work with > 100mW of well-focused green,) and some appropriately colored wax (the darker the better.) Simply focus the laser on the wax. As it melts, it will become reflective. Angle the laser so...

    Finally got my 445 going!

I'm rocking this baby at 1A in a TANK007 host. 405-G-1 lens. Micro Boost drive. 1132mW peak, 1088 average. So, so awesome! Pic is in a fully lit room, no smoke, dust, nothing!

    questions about micro boost drive

I'm having this exact same problem with two different Boost drives. I PM'd Dr. Lava, hopefully he'll have an answer for me. The lowest three current ranges work perfectly, it's when I bridge to R510 that things go south.

Laser Brighter after screwing up aixiz module

Yes, the little printed circuit boards on the back of the diode could be problematic. Most people remove them. Also, you're probably going to want to press your diode much deeper, or else you're likely going to have problems focusing. I use a little piece of 1/8" stainless tubing and a vise...

Difference in transmission rates between two 405-G-1 lenses. Normal?

Sorry for the delayed reply. Damn power went out. . . I think I figured it out. In lens #2, the retainer ring wasn't quite snug, giving the lens about a .5 mm amount of play. When it slid up into the nut a little more, it gave the extra output. In the normal spot, it was pretty close to the...

Difference in transmission rates between two 405-G-1 lenses. Normal?

I took the lens off my Pocket Mini for my 445 build, and I just now replaced it with one I bought from Flaminpyro. Out of curiosity, I put it on the meter. I'm now getting 25mW more than with the previous lens (275mW.) I'd expect some amount of variation, but 25mW seems like a lot. How much can...

Has anyone done anything with FAC, yet?

The title pretty much say it all. Also, a source for suitable lenses would be nice. I did the google thing, and every website I found was a "contact for pricing" sort of deal, which leads me to believe that they'll expect mass orders.
