A little on my Novalux 488nm DPSS. *PICS.*

Fascinating. For wavelength freaks like me, very tempting ! Interesting that 15nm makes such a difference to the colour. David

Max output for a 635 nm laser, while affordable?

You can get some very high powered ~ 635 diodes with built in FAC from PLT but they are of course multi-mode / arrays rather than single diodes, so that beam quality will be less than best. I looked into single diode 635s a while back - nothing available more than about 20mw. So basically for...

    50-100mw pen style focusable??

Can anyone point me towards a reasonably priced pen style 50-100mw green focusable? The usual suspects (DX, O-Like, Rayfoss) don't seem to have anything. Megagreen in the UK are the only stockists I have found, but at £125 (~ US$ 190) it's more than I want to pay. Alternatively, is there a...

    PGL-III-C 473 50mW died...

I am guessing that your unit must be the most powerful hand-held 473 ever owned by a hobbyist! My 50mw (which is now being replaced by CNI) put out 122mw peak when it worked, but 150mw is amazing, as is 130-140mw stable. How does the beam/brightness compare to the monster 445s?

    SUPER visible beam.

For quality and a high visibility, I suggest a 125mw viper from Dragon Lasers (which is basically a CNI retail outlet). The actual output will be more like 150-175 mw and the quality is top class. It will also burn a bit, though not as good as a high power 405 (see below). For burning, you...

    445 versus 473 visual comparison

I'm seeing it when I load the page. What do you see?

    445 versus 473 visual comparison

Ok ninth time lucky. This is a fairly successful beam shot from the 445 nm daguin custom (570mw). Exposure was 1/10th of a second. Taken with a 3G iphone (!!). The picture was taken by looking along the axis of the beam (from the side the camera won't capture anything). In real...

    445 versus 473 visual comparison

Thanks Traveller. I'll see what can be done. I don't have an SLR but I have a decent Samsung digital. Just need to find the charger.... The 473 I used for the colour comparison was a labby from O-Like. My CNI 473 arrived back on Friday, still dead, and is going back tonight for the third time ;-(

    PGL-III-C 473 50mW died...

Mine was both hit and miss. When it first arrived it was dead. No LED light or anything. Went back to CNI via Glenn. When it came back it worked fine for a few minutes and was highly over spec :-) But then the key switch assembly stopped working (basically just fell apart). I returned it...

    445 versus 473 visual comparison

I just fired up my 473 labby (65mw) to compare the output with my 445 custom daguin (570mw). I tried taking some pix, but the colours and brightness are not captured at all. All I get is bright white blobs. So old-fashioned words will have to do. Three things struck me: 1. The colours are...

    PGL-III-C 473 50mW died...

My PGL-III-C 473 50mW arrived back on Friday from CNI for the second time. Unbelievably it is still dead. The LED light comes on but there is no beam. They clearly have a very serious QC problem with their 473s. Mine will probably be going back for a third time ......

    Post your mA and mW

Can you post a pic? My dot is bar shaped, except when set to a point on near focus.

    PGL-III-C 473 50mW died...

My 473 50mw has been back twice now. First time via Glenn. Second time directly (it's on its way back now). If it's a warranty repair then they will pay the shipping charges. Just ask Ava for their Fedex account details. David

    Daguin custom 445

My greens definitely give the tightest spots. My viper and blue sky both give round dots of less than 1mm at the aperture. 405 is a bit more eliptical and red is nice and round but more like 2 to 3mm. I would say for the "wow" factor, green will always win. For burning, there's nothing to touch...

    Daguin custom 445

How were you comparing the two? My test was spot on white wall. This is biased in favour of the blue since the paint probably fluoresces slightly. But the green is definitely brighter. I repeated the test with my glasses off, so that the spot size becomes irrelevant. Green still brighter. Your...

Wanted: 635-642 high power single mode

I'm looking to buy or commission a single-mode high power focusable red in the 635-642 range (preferably at the 635 end). Any interested vendors or builders, please pm me. Thanks David

    Laser license?

There is no analogy between guns and lasers. Guns are designed and intended to cause damage to humans and animals. Hobbyist lasers are designed and intended to produce pretty looking beams, nice patterns and colours. They are not weapons and are far less dangerous than a hammer or a knife. It is...
