    Help with powering SF-AW210

Li-Ion cells should be able to deliver 2C (that is, discharging entirely in 1/2 an hour). Double its rated capacity, knock off the hours, and that's the current it can safely deliver. That'd suggest you can indeed get an amp or so out of a decent 10440 cell. I'd not run it for long though, and...

    3D Glasses Very High OD?

They might be worth it for a backup/spare pair with lower-powered pointers, but I wouldn't want to rely on them as my primary goggles. A decent test is 10s direct exposure without bleaching, whilst maintaining minimum OD, if I recall correctly. Good find - hopefully if anyone else tries these...

    Parents and lasers

It's a bit of a shame that your parents are like that. My first DIY laser was bought via my own PP account at around your age (maybe a little older) - I didn't have to ask my parents' permisson - and when I showed them that, they were a little dubious as to the safety, but quite interested in it...

    Kipkay and pot-modding..

I give up on trying to teach them. Revision to do, and 9 hours in which to do it (before the dreaded "you may begin", that is...) Good luck arguing with them (via PM or otherwise) - even if you make your points well, they'll still pretend that they won the argument (this actually happened twice...

    Kipkay and pot-modding..

Pot modding a laser is almost definitely a bad idea except in some very limited circumstances. That's a well-known fact around here, and should be common sense to his viewers...

    Kipkay and pot-modding..

I just noticed, his goggles don't block 808nm or 1064nm in any case ;) (unless the mention of "+IR" on the left goggle means it's also protective against 700nm+?)

    Kipkay and pot-modding..

That, and a mini note in his description - I'd certainly be happier with it if he actually said a warning out loud though (but that'd make his video longer than it needs to be, and lose a few of his attention-deficit viewers in the process ;) ) The comments on that video are actually depressing...

    Funny circuit schematic (xkcd)

So, who's going to work out the equivalent resistance of the mess on the mid-right?

Sad and still funny laser vid

Not sure if this disease is actually fatal, as the video's poster claims. (especially if they misspell "nerve" twice...)

    Funny Spam

I had an amusing one recently, claiming to be the Nigerian Anti-Fraud bureau, who wanted to compensate me for all the spam I'd been receiving from a scammer they busted. Points for originality, at least.

The "what is your technical back ground" thread.

I've dabbled in: Photography/videography (DSLRs, aperture, lenses and the associated editing side) Repairing consumer electronics (from phones to games consoles and more) Building and using computers/networking/watercooling Product design (ish) Electronics (lasers/LEDs/light-based stuff mainly...

    My first build from scratch

The 1117 should be fine - if you get a smaller-size one then you might have a bit of trouble keeping it cool at high current, depending on how many volts you're dropping. The LM317(T) would be best in terms of flexibility, presuming you don't mind too much about efficiency.

Anyone got a .PDF of Sam's Laser FAQ?

Sam's Laser FAQ Local Installation The .zip containing all the .html files is the closest that you get to a complete document (as far as I know) http://repairfaq.ece.drexel.edu/sam/laserfaq.zip

    Hey guys :)

Welcome to the forum! There's plenty of info on the forum here - what you should look at first depends on your skill with electronics. If you're relatively new to electronics, you should spend some time getting acquainted with the concepts first. Building a PHR-803T laser (violet, 100mW) is a...

Want to buy the Spider III

Avoid the Spyder like the plague! A DIY build (either by yourself, or by a member on here) will be of a significantly higher quality, and probably have a greater power output too. As long as you take the safety precautions, and possibly start off with a lower-power laser fisrt, there are huge...

12x Sled GB Round 2 is now closed and order is in.

Re: 12x Sled GB Round 2 is open. I just sent the payment, sorry it's so delayed! I haven't been on LPF much recently, I'm afraid, and I only got my bank account sorted out earlier today. I kept it in USD as you asked. Thanks again for organising this!

12x Sled GB Round 2 is now closed and order is in.

Re: 12x Sled GB Round 2 is open. I'd be in for one of the sleds which seem to be more efficient (BDR-S06J) - let me know payment details via PM?

    Windows Laptop Suggestions

Some of Dell's new mini-notebooks running the Intel Atom might be a good choice, but remember that you won't get much performance out of one (depends on your CAD program's requirements), and to enjoy "power user" use on a mini laptop you'll want a nice mouse and high-resolution display...
