Sweden proposes banning pointers >1 mW; asking for comments by Oct 4 2013

I'd bet the authorities are banking on that very statement my friend :) Fox hunting with dogs is banned here now (I don't happen to support fox hunting but that's academic) 100,000 or so people organised a protest march in our capital to protest the ban, and did so a number of times to voice...

Sweden proposes banning pointers >1 mW; asking for comments by Oct 4 2013

Of course IE, I was simply referring to the fact if laser owners as a group don't act when Sweden is threatened then we may be next. I of course meant no insult to the good people of Israel or of the Jewish faith. best wishes Dave

Sweden proposes banning pointers >1 mW; asking for comments by Oct 4 2013

While I'm not a big fan of the UK's resident nut case David Icke one thing he is often right about is Problem Reaction Solution Problem: Those big scary lasers that those (Insert minority group that have no real effect on the national vote here) have are posing a threat to aircraft, ships...

Paraphrased to suit from a work by Pastor Niemoller

Another arrested for pointing lasers at helicopters.

Just the IFF Rocky, not the urban legend of the missile lock BS that's been floating around for about 25 years :) I'll go dig up the info and a decent link if I can find it :) best wishes Dave

    laser safety according to power

Great info Mac, the only drawback is if the end user assumes the label saying 30Mw on their pointer is correct, if that 30 turns out to be a 75 or 100 then the numbers don't work :( If it's been piled then great but even then the thought of potential eye crossing leaves me cold. The problem...

    laser safety according to power

At 200 yards the kinetic energy of the 50AE 330 Grn round is about half that of it's energy at the muzzle. Using simple (very accurate) ballistic terminal energy equations you can work out that standing 14,790 yards from the muzzle of a 50AE DE pistol is safe, unless of course one of the few...

Playing with a 1.5w Blue laser and my eye hurts

Not really :) A big hammer will break fingers (they mend) a powerful drill may break your wrist if it grabs (it will mend eventually) In some cases you may be left with restricted feeling or numbness but most of the basic effects are reversible. A high energy laser strike to the eye can blind...

    Laser pointers in urban warfare

In reality, if all laser pointers are banned tomorrow but because of that Egyptian children grow up to enjoy the freedom from oppression we do in the west then it's an insignificant price to pay. I can rock up to 10 Downing Street in London and call the PrimeMinister an "asshat" to his face...

At Port Aransas, Texas. Need Legal advice regarding Lasers.

Joking aside Isaac, I don't think you have anything to worry about, probably a rent-a-cop out looking for the departments doughnut stash when he's supposed to be working :) best wishes Dave

Asiana pilot says he was blinded by light prior to crash

Ohh...maybe he's gone in too low at too slow an airspeed, dumped the jet into the deck, killed two innocent people, injured 180 more (30 seriously) right about now is probably the most likely time to be looking for a scapegoat. An unknown kid with a scary "laser weapon" would fit the bill quite...

    Meanwhile in Singapore . . . . .

In 1965 in the UK the government required all owners of CO2 gas powered airguns to register them with the authorities , the "licence" was free and anybody could have it. In 1968 the full script of the firearms act was changed to make ALL co2 powered airguns subject to more usual firearms...

At Port Aransas, Texas. Need Legal advice regarding Lasers.

Just a thought Isaac, the best place to ask if the law has been broken probably isn't somewhere that anybody can read it ;) Out to sea "shouldn't" be a problem as the horizon is a known distance away at sea level if the laser is at 2m above sea level the horizon is 3.1 miles away, you would see...

Lens Properties for Gas CO2 / YAG lasers

A great reference resource for calculations and general lensing info. II-VI Lens Tutorials Maybe not so applicable to pointing devices but 100 watt pointers aren't a good idea anyhows :) best wishes Dave

New to lasers, need help with correct eye protection

Hi Rhyse, Just a note mate, you may find customs don't look kindly on a 1.4W laser pointer. Possessing it is fine, importing it isn't :( worst case scenario, they will crush it, best case, they won't notice it. best wishes Dave

    Laser Liability Form?

For reference UK wise (if anybody has the same issues), It is impossible in UK law to disclaim liability for end user actions or illegal acts if you have a reasonable belief that your actions constitute an offence or will lead to an offence. Sadly "reasonable" isn't specifically defined in law...

Another arrested for pointing lasers at helicopters.

IFF doesn't like lasers as a UK police officer found out when the weapons system of a hot Typhoon got hit by the speed gun he was using on a hill near a local training area. I'd put serious $$$$$'s on the fact legislation in all developed countries is not a case of "if" but "When" and "How...

    The First Laser

The number that was often bounced around in the Physics world was we know about roughly the stuff that is 25 years behind current. So 2020 technology would actually be what *they* had in 1995, allowing for Moores law (technology doubles every 18 months) I hate to think what is really available...

    The First Laser

6Kw has been surpassed in CO2 by Rofins at 8Kw and Cross flow Mitsubishis to order at up to 12Kw. Higher power levels are just round the corner for industrials based on older military technology...it's sure a great time to be involved with lasers. cheers Dave

A Career which you can play with lasers daily

Requires a LOT of contacts and usually a degree from one of the upper echelon universities. I did the sub contract work for some military "stuff" a few years back and the security clearances take between 12 and 18 months to get. If you even "know" somebody with a criminal record you won't pass...
