Ok I am using 4 IN4004 diodes and a 1 ohm resistor but getting nothing near the ma output for testing, but I know I am supposed to be getting 412mv as per 1.25/3=.412. When I use just the 1 ohm resistor I get .412ma on the Amp setting, so is this ok.

You used the 25 ohm rehostat too, god that thing is big. ;D

Re: Finally done it (got a few ?s now) Ok yours is with one 10 ohm resistor In order to go higher in ma you must go lower on resistance. 1.25/10 = 125ma so you have maxed out the pot to get 230ma If your resistance is different please post it. Better than that post a few pics up for me to look...

Re: Finally done it (got a few ?s now) Is it normal for the diode to get a deeper red at a higher mA input, it seems dimmer but deeper. Driving it at 185ma it is a bright red, but at 220+ it gets deeper red and I was wondering if I am gonna kill it, or its normal. Also sorry no beam shots yet...

What is the best to use to clean optics out of DVD CD players, to get fingerprints off? And to use on aixiz glass, or plastic? Oh yeah is etching on the plastic lens normal? Its right in the center.

I work in anodizing and it all depends on the mils coated. Usually 1 mil of black will not come off easily(think a good soak in sodium hydroxide). Acid from skin should not remotely bother it so the coat is way less than that if it is truely anodized.

Looking at DIY lasers I have to say they are higher quality than a lot of off the shelf lasers like DX sells.

Laser printers usr IR too, as that was my first diode and question. Try Daedels Driver here http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1185701612 can be made for less than $20 easy, and a diode, at least a 16x DVD BURNER.

Keeping the batteries cool will make them last longer, but wont that effect the laser its self as they don't like cold? I refridgerate my cell phone batteries. lol

Re: Finally done it Tolerances of resistors can change some so that sounds right to me. It won't max over 250ma and kill your diode.

Well first with 2x 10 ohm resistors you should get 250ma max. Second was this under load or just hooked to your DMM? Third what pot did you use as it may have shorted out at the higher level? Answer these and ask more I am glad to help all I can. And looking good laserman!
