Osram PL520 3D printed host build

Well heat is not really an issue, at least for me. Even with the bdr 209 which gets the module pretty hot. It would need to get up to around 160c to even begin to melt PLA, which I am using, let alone ABS, And other high temp materials. There even seems to be a little thermal dissipation through...

Osram PL520 3D printed host build

I like boost drivers as they are tiny and most fit inside the module. If there is no issue with heat or battery life, then I don't see much of a reason to use a boost driver as you could use 2x16340 which delivers 3.7v, and is the same size as 1x 18650. You can't beat the $4.95 price tag. Best...

Osram PL520 3D printed host build

I will have all the parts listed that I used for this build. The host is still a work in progress. I recently removed the 20mm heatsink in replacement of just the module to make the top piece flush and much smaller. This diode only gets the module slightly warm after a few minutes of use...

Question About the BDR-209 900mw diode?

Alright thanks guys! You pretty much answered all my questions. Really do appreciate it. Ile just keep the driver for leds. ile post any updates to the design/build here.

Question About the BDR-209 900mw diode?

Here is the description of the XL4015 chip in the datasheet. http://www.xlsemi.com/datasheet/xl4015%20datasheet.pdf „ Wide 8V to 36V Input Voltage Range „ Output Adjustable from 1.25V to 32V „ Maximum Duty Cycle 100% „ Minimum Drop Out 0.3V „ Fixed 180KHz Switching Frequency „ 5A Constant...

Question About the BDR-209 900mw diode?

After finding that I was pushing the diode too hard I am questioning whether to just continue using the 5A CV CC driver. I don't get how if the current is kept within the "safe" zone for the diode why it would not work just as good as a LD driver. I understand that the worry is current spikes on...

Question About the BDR-209 900mw diode?

Thanks for all your replies guys! The heatsink I am using is an aluminum 25mm 12mm bore heatsink with fins which will help with cooling as I can add airflow holes for passive cooling through the fins. And 550ma or below on the bdr 209, Got it! And as for the filament. Even with the diode set...

Question About the BDR-209 900mw diode?

That makes more sense. So the lm317 itself wastes 3 volts from the batteries which isn't efficient because it wastes precious power that could be used to power the diode. On top of the diode needing 6-6.5v by itself which is already above what the batteries can deliver. So that wouldn't work...

Question About the BDR-209 900mw diode?

Thanks for your replies everyone. So the great thing about the host i'm designing is that I can build around my hardware and not the other way around. And to answer your question, yes I am wanting a portable not a lab. But I could always build a lab laser in portable form:P I love 3D printers...

Question About the BDR-209 900mw diode?

So I purchased a 900mw 405nm module from DTR, Came with a acrylic lens replaced that with a 405nm coated 3 element glass lens. Set my driver to 6.36v @ 670Ma, This diode is a beast. burns better than my 2w blue laser. Could be do to better energy absorption on material with that wavelength and...

Need clarification on how a laser works? And how to build my own.

So would something like this would work as a driver? https://www.ebay.com/itm/5A-Lithium-Charger-CV-CC-buck-Step-down-Power-Supply-Module-LED-Driver-New-M296/401461074483?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 I also just purchased a 445nm M140 A 1.6W diode to experiment...

    Hi From Portland Oregon!!

I am 19 years old, my name is Zach, and i'm obsessed with anything electronics. I live in Portland Oregon. And I am here to learn more about lasers and laser technology's. As well as planning on building lasers as soon as I figure out wtf i'm talking about.

Need clarification on how a laser works? And how to build my own.

So I've been experimenting with lasers and I am wanting to build my own. So from my understanding. You have a laser Diode. Which is wired to a voltage regulator or voltage converter. Something to bring the voltage to match the specs of the diode. Which is then behind a lens at the correct focal...
