Pulsed Mode Driver circuit for SONY DVD 16x Laser

Re: Pulsed Mode Driver circuit for SONY DVD 16x La Well, not to sound bitter or anything, but why was the 555 timer idea from my thread a bad idea then? It has a small footprint, requires no programming, runs at up to 2mHz in astable mode and costs around $1.50. Not to mention that they are...

    555 Timer IC

I'll be the first to admit that I am way behind the curve on lasers, but from what I've read, the GB diodes are putting out around 80mW on CW. This is to insure that the diodes don't overheat and burn out prematurely. In a pulsed circuit, they can be driven harder. They are rated at around 250mW...

    555 Timer IC

I would send the regulated current through the 555. The IC doesn't affect the current. It just chops it up into a square wave. They are reletively easy to use. The diagram shows a sample astable circuit.

    555 Timer IC

Well Mike, I've seen discussions about complicated circuits trying to get pulses down to nanoseconds. The 555 can give you a 1ms 50% cycle in astable mode, and is a lot simpler than what I've seen around here. 1ms pulses should give you enough delay to provide cooling and still not have an...

    555 Timer IC

Has anyone tried to incorporate a 555 timer IC into their driver design? :-? I was thinking of trying it with SenKat's GB diodes. I think it would allow me to get a bit more power from the diode without killing the life expectancy. Any opinions?

    Daedal's new BluRay LASER

I bet ;) I'm suprised that I haven't seen any mention of incorporating the 555 timer IC in the drivers I've seen here :-? SenKat's GB diodes are really only running at 80mW constant. The 555 will give you a 1ms 50% duty cycle if set up right in astable mode. I mean, it's not close to the 40ns...

    Daedal's new BluRay LASER

Man, I've only been a member here for a few days, but I am constantly amazed by the things you guys are doing. Hell of a job, Daedal! I'm waiting for Senkat's GB to go through to get my red diodes then after getting both of those right, I'm going to try a violet. Question though. Could you push...

Starting tonight, 13 Sept - new GB for 16xdiodes !

Re: Starting tonight, 13 Sept - new GB for 16xdiod OK. Submitted my order for two! Thanks for getting these out there SenKat!

Starting tonight, 13 Sept - new GB for 16xdiodes !

Re: Starting tonight, 13 Sept - new GB for 16xdiod 'Sup, folks? I'm new to lasers, but have been studying on a few different forums for a while. I'm definately in on this, but when I click on the link to the store page, it says they are out of stock. I'll keep checking back and order two as...
