I have a 50mw that isn't visible at 50 feet in the daytime, unless its not really a 50mw... It doesn't pop balloons or anything, but there is heat from the beam. I was thinking I would need 300mw-500mw.

Prairie dogs aren't exactly smart :D Even if you miss them by a fraction of an inch, they will retreat for a few seconds and come right back out of the hole lol.

I'm looking to either buy or build a laser that I will be able to use for spotting while hunting varmints. We go in groups and it tends to be a pain explaining as to where you see something, and just pointing it with a laser would be much easier... if it is possible. Typical range will be 100...
