Here's an old thread on dummy loads, from a schematic from Life long experimenter - It can be done
. I had put together a dummy load module inspired by this schematic with some very inexpensive parts from my bin.

Hmmm. Thanks james1095, I will heed your advice. I don't wanna accidentally destroy any of my HeNe tubes. It is indeed some intense ionizing voltage and it wouldn't take much to zzzzap one of 'em. I think I'll just stick to the brick PS. :lol

;) LOL!
I believe the misinterpretation comes from the fact that in French, the verbs walk and work are the same. "Marcher" can mean both.
N'est-ce pas, Tirano01? :D

Wow!!!
This I have to try! I happen to have a 20" TV that got recently retired from service. If I get my MG tube to lase, this will be an extremely cool experiment. So the flyback out is connected to the cathode and you're just waving the ground wire near the anode? Wouldn't there be some...
Hey you guys! Have a great one!
May your holiday cheer be of the single malt kind,
and may the new year bring you lots of new lasers!

Re: Powering a 12v HeNe PSU?
Good deal on the GrHene! Let me know if you need one of those little female quad connectors, I might have one in my parts bin.

Welcome!
I read your story with interest, because you were lucky enough to acquire one of those cool lasers from Xerox. I was a maintenance tech for Xerox way back in '88 and I tried my damnest to get my hands on one of those lasers (I was working on the mighty 9700 laser printer) but to no...
I use the "liquid tin" solution by MG chemicals, it deposits a nice, even coat of metallic tin on the copper traces, all is needed is to wash off the board with a bit of hot soapy water and you're done! As a bonus, the tin really helps when you're soldering, but the bad side is that the solder...
Welcome!
You will indeed find a wealth of information on anything from diode specs, construction tips and great reviews. Check-out the stickies and tutorials, and keep us posted on your projects!

Laser diodes have these annoyingly tiny tiny little leads that aren't compatible with big clumsy fingers... My first attempts at soldering wires on a diode ended in catastrophic solder blob messes.
One trick I use now to solder wires to a diode is to "pigtail" the wire itself. After pressing...
Aah, misuse of lasers... just this morning on the local news, the *headline* story was how usage of laser pointers have dramatically increased around the Montreal intl. airport to the point where pilots report an incident nearly every week.
These are the same dumbasses that are going cause the...

I have undertaken some major home renovations (floating floor tiles in my bedroom), my house is an utter mess. But mid-september, I should be all done. Oh and i'm organizing a cool rock show with Mahogany Frog (a great band from Winnipeg) on September 9 and a...
