Suitable star caps for a 2W laser

Do they have the same thread as a G2 lens would have? They are cheap enough, I may as well grab some. Would these likely be plastic or glass? If they will melt, its pointless using them i guess.

Suitable star caps for a 2W laser

I've built a laser with an M140 diode, and want to install a star cap in place of the G2 lens. Is there any set of star caps available that can screw into the housing? Am keen to experiment with making a bat signal type arrangement too. Anyone done this? How easy is it to make a star cap with...

My first build - 2W M140 diode laser

I might end up getting a G7 also and try both, I guess there is no harm in having a collection of different caps if I end up building more lasers anyway.

My first build - 2W M140 diode laser

Thanks for that, Ill grab one. Whats the story with star caps? Is it possible to get one that will fit this?

My first build - 2W M140 diode laser

This is the only G2 lens I can see on ebay and it says its for laser engraving, so im assume it would have a very fine focus to a point and give a very narrow beam? Im not sure if its a G2 going by this or not. Doesnt come in a brass lens holder by the looks either...

My first build - 2W M140 diode laser

OK, good to know, Ill grab a G2 off ebay and see how I find it.

My first build - 2W M140 diode laser

I tried my cheap glass lens that i got from china and i think it does have a tighter beam, but still did not feel like it could quite focus as good as it should. I will definitely try a g2 lens and see how that goes, I have absolutley no idea what kind of lens it is. Thats great to know, will...

My first build - 2W M140 diode laser

Yeah I didnt think much about doing that, but remember i just bought a lathe, so I could try cutting it down a MM or two I guess? No, its not a DTR module, its just a cheap one I bought off ebay that came with a lens but swapped out with a better G8 lens. The part that the diode is pressed into...

My first build - 2W M140 diode laser

Thanks lifetime17 for the host! This is my first laser build ever. I grabbed an astral drive V off ebay and an M140 diode. Its using a g8 lens, and as others have said, you don't get an overly tight beam and its slightly parabolic in shape I'm pretty sure. The beam is bright as hell and leaves a...

    How good are these optics?

Oh well, i can sort that out with my Lathe! :D At least the top is copper. Thats better than nothing.

638 or 650nm Whats more popular?

OK, that helps, seems a G8 is a good all round lens. I can always mix and match and see what gives a better beam anyways.

638 or 650nm Whats more popular?

OK, thats helpful, What kind of lens would I require?

638 or 650nm Whats more popular?

OK, that helps anyway. I found another diode called the USHIO HL63613. Anyone heard of this?

638 or 650nm Whats more popular?

Ok, thats helpful, I did wonder if 638nm would be more visible, so thats good to know. What diodes are easier to find? I see there are 632.8nm available also, im assuming they would be even more visible?

Survival Laser/Eagle Pair Goggles Video Review!

I had read conflicting reports on the quality and level of protection these goggles provide, so this is good to know, since ive ordered a pair!
