I still think that blinding a shooter will reduce the amount of people they can kill by far. Sure if it's crowded as hell they will still be able to spray bullets and hit people, but in most other cases not having vision will significantly reduce their ability to hit anyone. I'm worried about...

Yeah man! I always carry a ProTac 1AA with me. Not the BEST light on the market, but it sure does the trick and is very blinding within 10-20 feet. it's big enough to not lose, but i never notice it clipped to my left pocket!

Thanks for the continued responses! Really interesting to see what everyone thinks about this. Yeah I'm not as much interested in dazzlers as I am in a way of permanently blinding the pos. Usually what happens is they kill as many people as possible, and then are shot dead once police arrive...

Thanks for all the replies you guys, especially Red Cowboy. Yeah I'm in los angeles and it's virtually impossible to get a CCW unless you're in law enforcement. Guess I'll leave the 1W 445 at home and focus on running away quickly if something ever happens near me :o

No offense man, but I can say with certainty you are incorrect. Killing civilians is a war crime. Standing up to an active shooter in a nightclub (for example) and blinding them to get them to stop shooting civilians will do many things...but land someone in prison isn't one of them. War crimes...

Definitely a fair point! And yeah I have, currently I carry a pretty high-powered tactical flashlight with an intense strobe, and my benchmade 943. My problem with using these or mace/tacer is it's only effective at a close range, where a firearm would clearly be the winning weapon. Laser...

Hmm..I disagree, but I respect your opinion. IMO It would be hailed as an act of courage, and it would save lives...which is 100% definitely worth the risk of laser legislation, in my view.

Yeah I've ran this through my head, maybe I should build a more powerful and accurate laser so they are 100% blinded :P 1W seems to be a bit of a gray area, especially with how unfocused blues can be. I wouldn't try to blind him without being behind solid cover though of course, at atleast...

Ah ok, so no pain, but the damage/possible blindness would be pretty instant? Or does that develop slowly after getting hit? I've read that people have saved their eyes by going to the hospital soon enough after taking a hit, so not sure how it works. I wonder how focused the 1W beam would...

Yeah my laser usually stays defocused so it's about 6 inches wide at about 100ft, I try to keep it a little more focused than that though. And the Geneva Conventions don't apply to terrorism ;)

Thanks for your reply. Okay fair enough, let's say they're at 100ft. Is it painful when you get hit in the eye? Or is it something you can't feel? Is blindness instant? Even blinding one eye will severely impact a shooter's accuracy!
