I just received my first custom laser built by scumbagatheist with the Osram 450 and it puts out a nice clean looking beam. It LPM'ed at 181 mW. A very nice laser and I don't see a blue laser in your sig!
Banning the sale of a laser pointer would not extend to the sale of "components" that could be used to make a laser pointer. For example, a hobbyist could still legally buy a host, diode, module, etc. and put them together. There are lots of build kits available on this forum that can be used...
