    Laser saves dogs from Coyote

nice, there are not many "real world" problems solved by lasers :-) Just to be sure: you didnt happen to shine into the coyotes face/eyes, did you? oh, and welcome on LPF! manuel

Access to Salon... Laser hair removal Q:

HIMNL9, you are a walking encyclopedy! :-) Yes, I agree to all of it - the laser will be anything in the infrared area, and used pulsed. Since the pulse durations can go up quite long, the laserheads will often be constant-wave lasers which are switched on for "short duration pulses". 200ms is...

i keep seeing the same 1000mw/1w blue laser EVERYWHERE

..would like to get the host alone, I kinda like it. ..Whats the cheapest laser you found with it, no matter whats inside? Manuel

    Removing Annodization (without sanding)

..dont forget lye eats aluminum too.. thats what I heard, and eventually I will try it on both! :-) ..and I sure hope you dont have lye in oven cleaner?!? wtf! lye is probably the most dangerous chemical you can easily buy! Manuel

    Long distance CO2 collimation

thanks for the note, Steve. Indeed, I have a slab of Germanium, which was used in a thermal camera. So yes, I remember, its (somewhat) transparent for far-IR. cheers, manuel

    Various laser-related components

I second that! Happily browsing the diodes, and closing the website as soon as I realized there are no prices. Manuel

    Phlatlight 12w red LED flashlight!

they, luminus, do all three colors and white, even in one package! they have a UV one too, says google.. have a look around: luminus the sst-90 and similar are from them too. the highest output single die white LED there is, I think.. Manuel

    Phlatlight 12w red LED flashlight!

nope, no driver or current-limiting at all. just the **fire 18650 cell, the tailswitch, two wires and the LED. without the tailswitch and a multimeter in place I read 5.5Amp. Yes, the excess voltage has to be transferred to heat somewhere, most likely in the internal resistance of the cell...

Cheap Heatsink for scanner projects etc

nice find, thank you! General question: How do you drill nice holes? Mine, especially larger (12mm) diameter, end up as ugly trianglish holes.. maybe my material isnt deep enough for a round hole? Manuel

    How to polarize a beam

adding to Bluefan: all lasers produce polarized light! Laserdiodes even produce linearly polarized light by themselves, exactly what you need. However, you can only combine two differently polarized beams. The resulting beam is then a mixture, which cant be made "linearly polarized" again...

    Long distance CO2 collimation

Welcome to LPF! As far as I know, only ZnSe optics are used with CO2. Besides that I see no difference to any other laser! Collimate with lens(es), use a forward or reverse telescope to tighten the beam and lose divergence, or vice versa. For long distances a telescope to expand the beam...

putting spartan guts into new smaller host

what do you mean, "no driver"? like, directly connecting the diode to two cr123a cells? I am surprised you got more than just a short bright flash! :-) manuel

    Phlatlight 12w red LED flashlight!

thank you! :-) yes, indeed, I have great respect for photons and eyesight. 1.6w is a lot! In this case, the 1.6w spread on guessed 50x50cm, = 2500cm², which would be 0.64mw per cm². with eyes open and tiny pupils (guaranteed!) that would be highly uncomfortable, but still eye-safe. This light...

    Phlatlight 12w red LED flashlight!

..So I got this neat red LED from Daguin some time ago. The red one from a projector. Staring at me, teasing me.. I hid it away, it started to haunt me in my dreams! "But", I said, "I cant feed you 8 Amps! Thats ridiculous! Such drivers dont even exist!" Yesterday the LED finally won. Thats the...
