    Laser for hobby CNC-use?

I have cnc controlled power and on/off now. As for the combining, I think a knife-edge assembly is required. Is there any mirrors in DVD/CD drives that have the property I need ? That is, transparrent for IR one way, and reflective the other.

    Laser for hobby CNC-use?

I did a quick test yesterday using a diode from a random drive I had left over. Ran it first at 95 mA and did not expect much of a result. To my surprise it gave me a beautiful cut in 3mm depron at focus! It was run slowly to give most chance of effecting the material (30mm/min) but it worked...

    Laser for hobby CNC-use?

You really have to build a horrible cnc to have such poor control of the z elevation. Mine is built of wood/metal combination and still has better than 0.05mm accuracy. Since the spot I focus to is smaller than 0.1mm diameter using a target is simply not fesible. For measuring power output...

    Laser for hobby CNC-use?

Short ansver: Yes. Long ansver: The colmination and focusing assembly is dependant on the size of the emissive element in the laser as that together with the divergence dictates the position of the element vs lense and the mean width I get. If I had a light source with the same propertys I still...

    Laser for hobby CNC-use?

Yeh, I already have a ir webcam. I have tested a few green LD's to see the ammount of IR by using green blocker, and I found I needed filter on my green 50mW (so I added the IR filter from the $3 webcam to it). Also, the only part that I want the lid to shut off is the laser. I use it for cnc...

    Laser for hobby CNC-use?

I like the webcam idea simply for looking at it and taking nice videos. Also, I've been getting some comments saying I could use IR even though I distrust invisible beams. The IR has apparantly better absorption, especially for clear materials and white ones. I'd like to cut thin acetate for...

    Size of a focused spot

You ned to collminate it first. If you don't all you do is project a picture of the lamp. Focusing and Collimating If you ignore wave optics and look at the ray optics you have your claim that you cannot get a smaller dot than the emissive element mentioned, and it's wrong. You can, but it will...

    Size of a focused spot

Can't you read? I am talking about focusing a beam, and creating a single spot. Not creating a beam from a emissive element. Assuming you have a very wide element like a tube you will get a beam that has an odd shape, that's true, and your spot will also have a asymetric shape. However, the...

DIY Thermal LPM for under $50

Hehe. I do both SW and HW. My current RC project puts a quad controller (for 4-motor helicopter) with 4 direct motor controllers, 3 axis gyro, 3 axis accellerometer, 3 axis magnetometer, 2.4 GHz radio and barometric height sensor on a single 16x16mm 1g pcb (including components) and the firmware...

DIY Thermal LPM for under $50

Still nicely done. I want to tip you on Fusion PCB Service [PCB08511P] - $9.90 : Seeed Studio Bazaar, Boost ideas, extend the reach as they have a pcb service down to $9.9 for a 50x50 board (you get 10 for the price!). I used em for my latest quad controller board (for RC stuff) and they were...

    Size of a focused spot

I know this is an old thread and an old post, but I'd like to add a comment on this. The emissive element size is only relevant for focusing to projection. that is projecting a picture of the emissive element. When focusing a "beam" on the other hand, the source element is irrelevant...

WTB: 405nm or 445nm high power LDs (1.5w+) and lenses

I did a quick test on my current laser with high speed just to see the trace in some blackened acetate. (Quickly with a black sharpie, thus the uneven covering, but it appears black to the naked eye and the laser.) See attached image. The distance noted is from edge of aixiz module with lense...

WTB: 405nm or 445nm high power LDs (1.5w+) and lenses

I thought you actually wanted some distance between the LD and the target to get a longer "depth of focus". I notice that with my current LD from a DVD-RW drive. If I focus it for a very short distance The distance with good focus will be only 1/2 mm or so making it quite useless for cutting...

WTB: 405nm or 445nm high power LDs (1.5w+) and lenses

Thanks sinner. That certainly looks interesting. My cnc currently runns with a 12X DVD/RW diode and can cut 3mm depron nicely although not very fast. Getting up to 500mW-1W would make a drastic improvement and at 1.5W I should be able to do thicker depron and maby even some other stuff. Going...

WTB: 405nm or 445nm high power LDs (1.5w+) and lenses

Looking for blue LDs and lenses for a cnc build. I really need one, but could get 2-3 LD's just in case I fubar on my controller. (They will be run by a TTL modulated regulator so I have to get that right or they will pop, thus good to have more than one hehe.) Shipping would be to Norway and I...
