Sorry - you are correct.    I *thought* the Energizer C's were E2's (probably cause they were on the same shelf as the E2's) but inspecting the batteries show them to be just plain old Alk. C's. I purchased the Accupower 6000's from ThomasDistributing.com (as per the recommendation from Jack at...

Ok... I got my rechargeable batteries (Accupower 6000). What a world of difference it makes. With Energizer E2 batteries... the laser WILL in fact pop ballons and light matches and put a hole in most dark materials in the first 15 to 20 seconds of being turned on. Then power drops too much for...

you mean like a deadmans switch? - this does not have that, you are correct.

    Optotronics

Re: Optotrics Could you expand on your comment? I was under the impression for Class IIIb that you needed the following:   1)  Some type of keyed turn-on switch   2)  3 second delay between pushing the button and the beam coming out   3)  Manual or electronic shutter on the beam end 4)...

Another thing I forgot to mention about my decision to purchase from Optotronics.... He has an upgrade program which is pretty nifty... he allows you to trade in older lasers for a newer laser etc. Currently his "Bargin Basement" shows a 200mw for just $599 (FDA Complient) which isn't too bad...

The power adjustment changes the CURRENT supplied to the diode - thus decreasing the output power. It is part of the endcap safety switch - a 10 position switch - off at 0, full power at 9. Jack (from Optotronics) said that when using the rechargeable batteries I might find the beam more...

    Optotronics

Aloha all... Well, after VERY CAREFUL research (thanks to all your posts here which helped) I am now the proud owner of a PL-165 from Optotronics.com. I had pretty much narrowed it down to ether LaserGlow or Optotronics (from the original bad-four of LaserGlow, Wicked, Dragon, and Optotronics)...

    Help with goggles

I've read the various threads here concerning laser goggles.  I'm looking for 532nm goggles at an optical density of OD4 (or 5). The problem I have with Wicked is that they do not list the specs for their goggles.  Laser safety is not a casual matter.  I would rather not purchase something that...

    Laser pointer beam trapping

Yes, indeed... and it is done all the time. Your mirrors need to be near perfect front surface cold mirrors for this to work (else you quickly degrade the beam). These types of systems are used to measure the speed of light (by creating a long enough series of bounces to be able to measure the...

    Laser pointer beam trapping

As others have pointed out... you can not do this with standard front surface mirrors.  There is no such thing as a perfect physical mirror. Even at 99.999998% coating you quickly lose the beam out that .000002% loss (that is how a ruby laser works, as well as a HeNe laser, etc). However...

    Aloha!

Aloha NairB: You can find information on the observatory at their official website at: http://www.naoj.org I also run a website about Hawai'i and we have a page on the observatory with more info and photos at... http://instanthawaii.com/cgi-bin/hawaii?Astronomy.anatomy As per photos of...

    Aloha!

Aloha All... As a "years old" LASER and LED junkie... let me just say it is a welcome relief to find this forum. I have had, and loved, lasers from the first day they came out (yes, I remember even the old RUBY lasers). YEARS ago... my first science fair project was a HeNe laser - it was...
