My favorite story... An anthropologist (Colin Turnbull) was studying a tribe of jungle people who lived their whole life in a dense forest. They lived without ever having seen a great distance because of the thick backdrop of endless trees. The anthropologist took one of the tribal members to meet another tribe who lived far away. They got into a jeep and left the jungle. Along the way they came to a long dirt road that stretched to the horizon. At the end of this dirt road was a herd of cattle grassing. As they got closer to the cows the tribal person was showing signs of anxiety. His symptoms worsened the closer they got. Finally he began to scream in horror!
To him these cows had been ants that were some how growing. This was the day scientists discovered we are not born with an understanding of depth perception. It is a learned ability.
I believe many of the perceptions I take for granted are leaned abilities and we must all be more accepting of people who seem crazy.
