I'm glad to finally find someone who's into 'real' lasers, instead of just diodes. I'm fascinated with that 125a. Beautiful machine!

Nitrogen Lasers: for those who like to build from scratch

Yes. The damage is caused by the peak power of the laser. Peak power is what really counts when it comes to pulsed lasers. Q-switching is the best example of how increasing peak power, even at the expense of total energy, enables pulsed lasers to perform impressive feats such as drilling through...

    Early Laser Pointing Device

In light of what Prototype said earlier, your comment gives an example of how "far" we've come. Quite frankly, I had hoped for something better:can:

    HeNe Laser Lamp! Portable/Battery operated!

Is it possible to build a simple transformer based HeNe power supply from scratch? I'm not talking about a miniature 12 volt supply. I just want a way to power up a small tube that I have.

    HeNe Laser Lamp! Portable/Battery operated!

I've got a little HeNe tube I took out of an old bar code scanner. The problem is that I need a power supply for it. The original power supply was a potted mess, and I just threw most of the junkware away. Anyone know how to build a power supply from scratch? Thanks.

    Diode pump a ruby laser?

I think ruby runs as a relaxation oscillator. The lower laser level is ground. In a basic flashlamp pumped system, a single pulse contains many sub-pulses: tiny pulses within a pulse. In theory it could oscillate continuously, but the rod would overheat due to the amount of energy needed from a...

Successful DIY CO2 laser, made from scratch!

Just to let everyone know: I finally started my own website for this laser. It is under heavy construction at the moment, and is therefore far from complete. So if you look at it, be sure and check back from time to time until it is finally complete. http://jarrodkinsey.org Jarrod

CO2 laser running on exhaled breath

Hi guys, They made one mistake in the blogs: the laser DOES work with exhaled breath only!!! I wish they had clarified this. I don't remember ever saying that it required Helium and N2; only that it was lasing on exhaled breath. To be sure; I've tried both exhaled air into a balloon and...

Successful DIY CO2 laser, made from scratch!

Yes indeed. Sam's Laser Faq is an excellent (in my opinion, the very best) resource. Many thanks to Sam Goldwasser for his effort in providing it. For anyone who is not already aware of this: Sam's Laser FAQ: Welcome Page At the link above, you will find the coprehensive table of contents...

    Argon laser build!

I don't care if they come out with diodes that perform like lasers in science fiction movies: this is beautiful technology man! There's no substitute.

Successful DIY CO2 laser, made from scratch!

Thank you! My next laser will likely be a shorter tube, with a much wider diameter bore. It will use experimental metal mirrors, with a salt window for the output. Eventually I would like to experiment with some TEA CO2 builds. Then perhaps I will attempt some visible-light gas lasers...

Successful DIY CO2 laser, made from scratch!

BTW awesome work man. :worthy: None of us are. I thank my Lord and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, that I have the time to do this. Only He is worthy of anything! I always wanted to be a physicist. It wasn't God's will for my life when I was young. But I am very thankful to Him for letting...
