Yes, I've put the lens closer and farther away from the diode and it only focuses a few cm away from the lens regarding the distance the lens is from the diode.
I have a 300mw IR but I replaced it with the 1W cuz the 300mw was to weak. I'll try powering up my 300mw IR when I get the chance and...
Also, I'm using a driver that specs for 100-500mw diode. It will just keep the diode from going full power right? Would it have any other affect on the diode?
I have it in a module like this o-like one:
9mm diode housing w/glass lens for red laser or 808nm | eBay
I tried using the lens it came with and this lens:
660nm/808nm Glass Collimating Lens/M9P0.5 Metal Frame | eBay
The problem it not that it doesn't burn at a distance but that it doesn't...
I just built a 1W 808nm IR laser. It works really well and burns nicely but only at about 5cm. No matter what distance I put the lens at it's focused only to one point.
I tried 3 different lenses that I had but they all do the same thing. I've built a green, red and violet laser...
Thanks Dave,
Yea, I noticed the driver and diode spec as well but since the diode is only $4 I bought another one. I didn't get to try it out yet, will be doing that soon. If it doesn't work I guess I'll just have to buy a different driver.
I have a 300mw 808nm laser diode w/driver and this lens:
660nm/808nm Glass Collimating Lens/M9P0.5 Metal Frame - eBay (item 260724564678 end time Jun-18-11 05:24:39 PDT)
I looked at vids and pics and everyone has a pinkish dot but I have a dim red dot. do I need a special lens or something to...
I don't have goggles for it. I was thinking of getting some before starting the project but I looked on ebay and they're expensive. I got 405nm-532nm goggles for $20 but the lowest I found for 808nm was $40.
Any place I can get a pair for cheap?
I really don't think there is a point in getting a 500mw for $22 when I can get a 1W for $12. If I put either one together with that driver I'll get the same amount of power out and maybe a bit more out of the 1W.
But I'm thinking just for starters, since I've never built an 808nm, I'll get one...
I don't have the diode yet but I'm thinking of getting something like this:
808nm diode | eBay
I need about 1.2A for max power so I guess it wont work.
What would I need to build my own driver? I have a basic idea of how to do it but have never built one.
