It's the same length as the chrome host. I just used the black one for demonstration because the focus ring was already loose. But as you can see with this chrome host, the ring is pushed a little farther down inside, and because of that, the battery door has about half the threads handing out...

This is how much of the focus lens sticks out of the top without the threaded ring. Just finished my first 2 laser builds. I used a 488nm (55mW) and a 520nm (80mW) and both are powered with AAA batteries.
