    how far ? ? ?

Well, since the universe is expanding it is hard to say, but at least as far as is the edge you point it in. You'd think maybe just 1 photon may make it ;p I am sure I have some laser photons at least 10 light years away. I am guessing you mean how far can it go, and see the beam with the...

Can 445 set white paper on fire easily?

I've done paper, but I also melted solder as well. I would have assumed the reflective looking surface would have made it impossible, but I can do it pretty easily. works on both my .015 and .032 diameter. the .015 being easier of course.

    Some laser knowhow/vocab

Some of these questions are pretty basic. Duty cycle means how long you can leave it on for, then leave it off for. If some lasers get too hot, they die Host = the container for the laser, like a flashlight "host". Led Indicator? uhh, its a light. lit = on.... 10ft @50mw, probably not. If it...

Put a battery in backwards...... :(

I believe he said it is just epoxy, to help preventing breaking the ferrite core.

    1500mA 445nm diode... use an LM317t or LM338t

Wouldn't a pelter cooler work better in this application then water cooling? Your only dissipating a few watts of heat. A decent sized heatsink will work just as well. And my pc is water cooled as well, 130W+ of heat is a little more worthy, lol.

    Anyone noticed CNI´s 447nm portables?

6:1 ratio on the divergence would tell me there is no, or very little beam correction.. Just another blue laser with standard collimation.

Optical Trapping - Real Laser Tractor Beams

Tried it with my 445 for the heck of it. Figured it would not work, being multimode. All I accomplished was setting the felt tip on fire a few times, lol.. The focus was also about 2" out, the closest I can do atm.

    BEWARE of ARCTIC BATTERY EXPLOSION

Wow. Most lithium battery are dangerous. The 18650 cells are not vented, so when they fail, they fail big. At least it was not in the arctic and in your hand. Contain the pressure, and it gets worse, like a pipe bomb. Its a good thing you were not in the room! Perhaps a reason to be as careful...

    Death to LOC red laser

I thought microwave transformers were more like 1500v 500mA+. (750W+) I think the neon transformers are 12/15kv, 30/60ma. Obviously be very careful, you can die instantly at that current. I tried it once or twice, but decided not to play with it any more. Arcing drew so much current, all the...

Cylindrical correction optics for 445, 638

I had a response from him on PL a few days ago, he said they were being AR coated at the time. So maybe not too much longer..

GB 445nm diodes For Sale $45

Yeah, I am not worried. He has been very helpful and is a trustworthy guy :yh: I've been in contact with him, I think he is having a hell of a time getting everything. (like lenses, the whole wrong coating ordeal).

GB 445nm diodes For Sale $45

Yeah, I've waited 2.25+ months. But he has responded to my PM's about it. He must be pretty busy with "real life"(TM) stuff. I haven't canceled my order, because I consider it bad form to quit a group buy - type situation. I do hope it gets sorted out soon though, my project has been on hold...

Interesting phenomenon with 445 & Boost

I have to question that battery, even if its not the issue. 3600ma? I don't think that is possible. The internal resistance of the battery may be to high, IE cannot produce enough current. Have any other battery's without crazy unrealistic specs?

    445nm optics

The line means it *IS* focused. It is supposed to be there. If there is no line, it means its not really focused, or it is clipping the sides. That is what these diodes do, they have a rectangular lasing area, and so the output is as well. You have to use correction after that point if you want...

    2+ watt 445nm for $210

If you want a thinner beam, then use a lens with a shorter FL. You get a thinner beam, but worse divergence.
