Are these just different names for the same type of laser?

I've seen some blue laser pointers that claim 445nm, others claim 447nm, while others 450nm. Are these all actually refering to the same technology of laser diode, but the sellers are being imprecise and just rounding the numbers differently? 447 rounded to the nearest 5 would be 445, while 447...

Where can I get a real 5mW violet laser pointer?

I think they must have some level of mass production or it would cost hundreds of dollars, not just over $100. Yellow laser pointers, for example, still cost almost $700. www(dot)laserglow(dot)com/product/rigel-hv-yellow-laser-pointer Now at that price for a yellow laser pointer I can certainly...

Why does this wavelength get its own forum section?

I'm also quite sure I'd had an account here before. But it seems you guys changed forum software or something, and lost the user database. That's why I had to create my account here again. I'm not a new member, just new in the most recent database your software is using.

Why are 473nm DPSS laser pointers so expensive?

The laser diode at www(dot)beamq(dot)com/100mw-473nm-nichia-laser-diode-nda4116-p-1029.html claims to be a 473nm laser diode, but I thought that specific wavelength was only achievable with as a DPSS laser, which uses a frequency doubling crystal and a 946nm laser diode. I didn't know any 473nm...

Why are 473nm DPSS laser pointers so expensive?

I just got my 5mW 450nm blue diode laser pointer from Z-Bolt. I'm looking to get a cyan or yellow laser next. These are more exotic wavelengths, and I don't want one of those 50mW ones like you mentioned JetLasers made. 50mW is NOT a safe power level for a pointer, and can't even legally be...

UV, Violet, or IR which is best for burning?

Why the flame war all of a sudden?

Where can I get a real 5mW violet laser pointer?

BIG THANKS to you for posting this. This is THE ANSWER to my question. None of the other "answers" people were posting in this thread actually answered my question. They all recommended I make it myself or live without it. You however, actually found a company that sells these, and at a cost I'd...

UV, Violet, or IR which is best for burning?

I saw posts here saying that red lasers at a given power level don't burn as well as blue lasers, because red lasers have less per-photon energy than blue lasers. While that is true about per-photon energy, that is already taken into account by the power of the laser. Power is energy per second...

Why does this wavelength get its own forum section?

I saw that. I thought that was for rules and stuff posted by admins, not for users to post personal intros.

Where can I get a real 5mW violet laser pointer?

I would simply want to make sure it couldn't exceed 5mW, even if that meant having a typical output of only 4 mW (allowing for relatively large swings in optical output power, up to one mW). Constant wattage isn't important to me. If the diode was run with a cheap constant-current circuit...

Where can I get a real 5mW violet laser pointer?

I can't buy from them because they have no buy button, or even a price listed. If you can point me to any other company that sells true 5mw 405nm laser pointers, please do so. That would be a great addition to my laser pointer collection.

Why are 473nm DPSS laser pointers so expensive?

532nm DPSS laser pointers can cost well under $100, but 473nm DPSS lasers can easily cost $500, even though they use the same DPSS techonlogy. Why is 473nm so much more expensive? Does the IR diode use a wavelength where the semiconductor material for that diode is more expensive, or does the...

Why does this wavelength get its own forum section?

I don't think there's any section for introductions on this forums, and if I posted an intro in any other section, it would be off-topic so would get deleted as spam.

    A Plea for EYE Safety!!

I just saw this Google ad banner for overpowered handheld lasers on this same exact thread about the dangers of overpowered handheld lasers. It even brags about them having "destructive laser power" and claims they have 7000mW (7watts) of power. Here's a screenshot of the ad.

Why does this wavelength get its own forum section?

Is there something special about this wavelength, that it is separate from the "Blue, Yellow, & Other Colored Lasers" section of the forum?
