Hello everybody.
I havent been around much lately but Ive got a lot more time on my hands now (summer break) so Ive been checking out the forum again and seeing whats new. Anyways I was thinking about all these driver designs I have on my computer that arent being used and Im sure some of you guys would like to try them out! I also figured there are others on this forum with driver designs they wouldn't mind sharing.

How about we make this thread a compilation of LPF members custom drivers?

Ill start off with a few of mine below. Hopefully some other people will add theirs too. Please only post your drivers if you are making them open source (i.e. including some type of schematic or board file) for others to build. We don't want just a picture of it!

Ok, lets get started! (I will add more as I get time)

2. LM3410 "nanoboost"

This one is based around lm3410, same as benboost but measuring only 6x6mm and about 8mm diagonal. This is for those super tiny builds! Output should be kept under 500ma or so. The little inductor wont handle much more and the board will overheat quick if you try to draw too much power.

Parts:
*lm3410x sot-23-5
*2x 22uf 0805 caps
*0805 set resistor
*0805 4.7uh inductor

*SOD-323 schottky diode 1A

3. TPS61200 low voltage boost/linear

This is another little guy, weighing in at 9x9mm. Whats special about this one is that is can boost from as low as 0.3v. Good for 1xAA/AAA builds because you can use an alkaline for low power then pop in a li-ion to get full power. IIRC it will pump about 800ma into a 445 diode from li-ion and around 200ma from alkaline. (Dont hold me to those numbers, it was like 3 years ago when I made a build with this driver and I gave it away so I cant check it again) This would also be good for reds because it will go into a linear driving mode when vin > vout.

I dont have the schematic file for this one, but it is similar to whats on the datasheet.

Parts:
*2.2-3.6uh inductor around 3-4mm, >1.5A saturation current
Theres a ton on digikey that will work ex. SDR0302-2R2ML Bourns Inc. | Inductors, Coils, Chokes | DigiKey
*10ohm pot ~4.5mm
ex. 3314J-1-100E Bourns Inc. | Potentiometers, Variable Resistors | DigiKey
(Cant cheap out on some tiny one cause the diode current flows through it, 1/4watt is good. Optionally leave off the pot, short the pads, set current with the 0805 resistor. R=0.5/I)
*2x 0805 caps 10-22uf
*0.5ohm 0805 resistor
*0.1uf 0603 cap
*TPS61200 chip (DFN10)

No parts for this one, just send off the .brd file for cheap contact boards.

USB battery charger

This is a very useful board to have around. Just attach some wire with magnets on the end and charge any of your li-ions from usb. Up to 500ma charge.
Parts:
*MCP73831 sot-23-5
*2x 1206 4.7uh caps
*1206 LED
*1206 330ohm resistor (or whatever is appropriate for your led)
*1206 set resistor (2k for 500ma charge, see datasheet)
*Male usb connector

LT3083 Adjustable Linear

This is a rock solid adjustable linear driver. It has two current ranges. Low is 150ma to 880ma and high is 350ma to 2080ma. Design is right off the datasheet, aside from playing with resistor values to get the current ranges. Dropout is low, needs about 2v (max) more than diode voltage to regulate at full current. Compare that to the classic lm317 that needs around 4.5v more or the old mohgasm and jib boards (lm1117/1085) needing around 2.75v more. It has continuous ground. You can also put a multiturn pot on it for more accurate adjustment. Down side to this one is the IC cost $9 on digikey, but then maybe $2 for all the other parts.
