Suggestion: Mobile theme for LPF.

Hello again LPF. I was visiting this site with a mobile device, and I was thinking how messy the forums can look on such a device with all of the sigs, avatars, etc. So I was thinking how sweet it would be if we had a mobile theme for this forum.

To make things easier for people with mobile devices such as Android phones, BlackBerries, etc. Avery could make a sub-domain, something along the lines of this.

There he could re-install vBulletin with the mobile theme, linked to the same database that this forum is linked to so it will technically be the same thing (and same for licensing purposes also). What are your thoughts on this?

Wow I was just thinking about this yesterday. I do a lot of surfing on my iPhone when I'm away from the computer, so a mobile version of LPF would be amazing!

Do you have any idea what it takes to create a mobile version of a site? I see a lot of other forums I go to have had mobile versions made and I'm curious about what it takes.

Just a theme really. It will disable avatars, text signatures, etc. There are a lot of free vBulletin themes out there too so it shouldn't even be really all that difficult to pull off, just a bit of time consumption.

This is an excellent idea. There are free mobile VB templates avail on the internet.. I am thinking of doing this soon

This is a goal for the next month... with the increase in use of mobile devices etc i agree this is important

Aren't you a tad over-attached to LPF if you need to check it even when out of the house? :p

Anyway, if it's not too much of a burden or extra cost for c0ld I think it would be a fine idea. I guess it could just remove signatures, avatars, embedded videos and such, but perhaps leave a link where they were so you can click to see what was hidden.

Edit: @Jaseth I don't feel I'm overly attached. I'm just away from my computer most of the day and from time to time I like to check in and see what's going on.

Sebastian, I was checking these forums even while I was on vacation in Hawaii, and I just joined LPF like a week prior to leaving NY to go to Hawaii lol. I think I joined LPF on July 2nd 2009, and I went on vacation on July 14th.

What about a full blown Ipod/Iphone LPF app? Would that pretty a lot more involved? Or is it going to take something a bit more?

Another kickass idea! I wish I knew how to program for the iPhone though, I'd develop an app in an instant for LPF. Anyone a developer for the iPhone here?

We should just stick to the mobile version as there are many mobile devices out there besides the iPhone.

Great idea!:beer: I do a large part of my internet surfing on my blackberry, would love to see a mobile version of this forum.
