Question: Moving Windows to SSD, keeping everything else on HDD?

I'm not sure if this is possible, but I'm trying to find a way to get my computer to boot off of a SSD, preferably making it drive E:.
Then I could keep everything else on my 1.5TB HDD (games, music, downloads, etc.) as drive C:, since windows would recognize the games and programs being installed on drive C anyway.
Is this even possible? I just want Windows to boot up faster lol.
I don't want to have to re install EVERYTHING when it's already in my program files on my HDD.

You better make C: as bootdisk. I learn it the hard way. I did make D: boot and I felt never satisfied with the computer nor are the programs.

The best way is re-install os on ssd. The os will recognize the ssd and it will adjust settings to it. Some settings are different from the normal harddisk. After the install, connect the old hd to the computer and delete the old os. Re-install the programs on ssd but leave the data on hd.

I guess I can bare with the extra 2-3 minutes of waiting at the desktop. I need to allow my computer to do a full defrag, but on harddrives that are over 1TB that can take a while..

If you already have your SSD and a working installation of windows, you can move your swap file (paged memory, virtual memory, whatever) to the SSD for a slight performance improvement.

W7: Right-click My Computer
go to Advanced System Properties on the left pane
go to the Advanced tab on the window that pops up
click Settings under the performance heading
click the Advanced tab on the new window that pops up
click the change... button under the virtual memory heading


Modify it so that there is no paging file on the OS drive. Instead, put it on the SSD drive. System managed is fine, but if you want to choose your own size, I'd recommend at least 1.5x the amount of physical mem.
