I have a spare Surefire 6PL-BK (Surefire at Lowe's: LED Aluminum Flashlight)
and was considering using it as a host for my blu-ray. [Before you freak out, I got it very cheap and if I need one, I can probably get another without too much hassle.]
I just would like advice from those more knowledgeable than myself about this as a possible host.

For that money you can build a complete 120mW Blu-Ray LOL. You can use anything for a host. You just need to find a heat sink to fit it. Maybe some aluminum washers glued together with some thermal epoxy. There are a few machinist here too that could make you one. Its more of a trial an error thing. Bring the host to a hardware store and see if stuff fits. Then you will need a 15/32" drill to make the hole to squeeze an AixiZ module in.

I know, but I've had it for more than a year, so it saves me buying a new host

i have tried to make many hosts out of random flashlights and it is FAR easier to work with the ones that Jayrob and others ALREADY machine heatsinks for. its SUCH a pain in the ass to fit a heatsink if you dont own a lathe yourself.

Jayrob said he'd try to make a heatsink if I send him host, for $30, not bad. But what about using washers, etc.?

nah, no washers.. unless its a PHR or something.

if your working with high current reds, you NEED an aluminum heatsink.

i would take J's offer, he is THE MAN at things like this. someone MAY offer you one for a few bucks less, but if jayrob does it you KNOW it will be top notch awsomeness.

Definitely this, I have one and don't regret it for a second. It's first class work he's putting out there, great pricing too.:D

It's going to house a PHR at 120mW. Using copper washers and thermal paste. No offense to Jayrob, I have seen the stuff he offers and it's GREAT, but this will work for now.
