Hello,

i was just assembling my laserkit, and now my diode doesn't seem to work anymore,
i bought this stuff from stonetek, so im kinda sure that its good stuff.
is it possible that i killed my diode by getting it too hot during soldering?

greets,
kamil

damn, this sucks donkey balls then.
but i only had the soldering iron to it for like 2 secs.
now i have to find some other diode, if i can get this one out on the housing...

Did you test your ciruit before attaching the LD?
It is one step in the process that you should always do when making a laser....

This thread explains all...

Follow those steps before you put your next LD in circuit. If heat from soldering turns out to be the probable cause, use croc clips on the LD pins to sink the heat whilst soldering.

I installed car stereos/alarms/cell phones for several years, so I have a TON of soldering experience. ANd I still use these $2 heatsink pliers when soldering any small componenents that I don't want to risk damaging. Clip these on RIGHT next to the laser diode, and solder the capacitor to the laser diode. Powering up the circuit and then hooking up the diode can kill it if the capacitor wasn't connected to the diode.

We all had to learn these things, ;) a little reading can save a lot of money and heartache.

Good luck with the next one

Hey, I didn't want to start a new thread since this has probably been answered before, but what exactly is the best and fastest way to solder a capacitor and the two wires to the LD? :-? I've been looking around the forum and the only post I found about it was on Kenom's dorcy mod thread here:

Is there a better way to solder things to the diode?

Don't feel bad..I have lost over 20 diodes through trial and error, and for all kinds of reasons.. ;D Much I learned the hard way. Hang in there..it is all worth it.

I never solder capaictors right onto the leads of the diode, i just dont like putting that much heat on them, take some short peices of wire solder those onto the ld then solder the capacitor right onto the wires, safer for your diode.

...lazer... ;D ;D ;D
