Do the MXDL mod instead. You will never regret it especially if you get a heatsink from Jay and use an open can diode.

if i do the mxdl mod, is there anything that i do not need if i use a heatsink instead?

The heatsink helps dissipate heat created by the diode and keeps it from overheating.You always need a heatsink with powerfull diodes and stuff that create a lot of heat in general.

Get the 20x dvd burner. The open can in there is more powerful than the phazor diodes.
