Well my company's shipment did get released... had to go a day through customs and a few days through FDA. Ugh.. What a pain.

I have a personal shipment of sample lasers coming in.. hope I don't have that problem.

FYI: If you have to have lasers shipped.. try to not go through LA's shipping port. They scrutinize a lot more closely than other places.. at least that's what I heard.

Way more than 5mW

I just tested one of the sku. 91 from DX. LaserBee power meter indicates that it is outputting 50mW. Yes I typed 50 :eek:.

I then put a nova IR filter between it and the thermopile sensor and the output dropped to 36mW. Allowing as much as 6% visible light drop for the filter (3mW) means at least 11mW of this is infrared.

Be careful when you get yours! Assume it may be putting out way more than 5mW

That's crazy. I have a SKU 91. I'm not using this one much since I have another one. The truth is that even if I look at the spot from very long distance my eyes hurt. I wonder if there is so much IR light that I'm burning my eyes without even knowing it. I might just have to get glasses even if it's 5 mW. (I purposely wanted and purchased 5 mW to avoid any dangers). I guess you can't trust anything. Is there any way I can test mine for IR light? If so, how? What is the trick with the Cola? I tried to use cheap cameras with no IR filter and high end cameras but can't see any purple or red light. Just green. I'm sure there is some IR leakage but don't know how much.

That's what prompted me to test mine, it was very, very bright for just 5mW.

Another way I recently did some infrared testing was by using a little red filter that came with my mag light (used to make the flashlight red). I found that I could not see green through it. Put it in front of the camera lens, played with the exposure a little and then held a TV remote in front of it. I could see the IR from the remote. So now I had something that would see IR but not green. Sure enough, looked at the spot from a green laser with it and saw IR. Of course you have to have a camera that will see IR, which is easy enough to test with a TV remote. Oh, and the IR will look WHITE through the camera.

Have you ever tried that trick with Cola? Supposedly it is possible to see an IR light through it easilly. But I can't see anything. Hmm.

I just got my 5mw green lazor in the mail from dx today... its one of the shorter cr2 ones...
they called it a "light pen" on the customs sheet ;D
didn't get opened either
