Default Please help, is my diode broken?

Hi, this is my first, but hopefully not last post here!
The external button on my 100mw green burning laser pointer recently broke, i think it got dislodged when it was dropped from my pocket. It worked for a while but then stopped working and the fault felt like the internal diode, casing and driver had shifted a little and the botton was not depressing the switch inside the pointer. I had no choice but to take it apart The attached photos show the front and rear of the assembly. I don't know how to wire it to check if it still works. If it does it is going into a toy phaser gun. Please help!!

Get two AAA batteries, and one wire. Put the wire on the end of the positive battery terminal, and touch that to the casing of the brass module. Place the negative end of the batteries on the spring. Now - depress the button....does it light up ? you will most likely need 4 hands to do this, or at least some tape :P

Thanks for the advice, i did try that and there is still doesn't light up. I noticed the switch was dislodged and the solder was slightly cracked. The switch can be lifted at the end nearest to the spring. Is it written off do you think? is there any way i can test the diode to see if it is still serviceable?

The laser is fine! I'm 99% sure that the button just needs to be re-soldered. This should be pretty easy, just touch the existing solder with a soldering iron and it should join back up. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, I could fix it for you. Worst case scenario is that the copper pad from the driver got pulled up from the board, but that is still fixable, it just takes a few tricks.

how do you take out the diode out of your laser...it seems that the top part is unsrewable...

The only diode in that laser is probably a 500mW IR pump.
Green lasers are DPSS (Diode pumped solid state), which means that the IR is being emitted out of the diode, into a series of crystals, and out of the aperture at 532nm. Your best bet would be to keep the module/driver combo, find a toy ray gun that takes 2 AAA's, and replace the LED with the module, and hook up that spring to the connectors in the toy ray gun.
