Hello All,
I just purchased green laser from Radio Shack. I would like to get your help and guide to help in taking apart my laser. The battery compartment is probably standard screw on part. The problem is with board that is in the laser part of the pointer. When looking from the top inside (where the spring part is it looks like there is a ring with two cut slots on it. My question is if the ring is a screw type of ring or the board comes out out of the other end where laser hole is? Please help...I'm stuck

Thanks a lot for the link...pot mod little shaky as the screw dos not tight. Any other info on Radio Shack green pointer...maybe resistor mod...
I have found a spot on the screw that increased power slightly but it starts strong for a second or two then becomes weaker and rebounds to it's pre-mod strenght. Thanks for all the help

I recently bought a RS laser before I happened upon this site. I watched the pot mod video on youtube, and the model I bought is different than the one he demonstrates on (Im the one that posted the comments). The pot in my is actually right in front of the button, and not on the opposite side of the laser. I would have seen this before I started drilling if only I was able to get the laser out of the tube.

Yes, mine does the same thing with the power of the beam. Even with lithium batteries, the beam will be stronger for about 1-2 seconds, then goes back to normal.

OK you pot modders --- I assume you have done the research on here.

You turn the pot. What was the starting current ?? Did it go up ?? What was the input voltage ??

I'm interested in the RS pointer -- We need your science here so we can help all of us. Please feed us your data.

I currently don't have a way to check the output of the laser other than my eyes (just starting out in the hobby..I have a voltmeter, but I cant get the laser out of the housing..), but I noticed that while holding the button down, whenever I touched the pot with the screwdriver, the beam went to its max brightness. I guess you should use a non-conductive screwdriver to adjust it.

REF ---

OMG -- READ the posts -- NEVER use an unsulated screwdriver !! It grounds the pot. READ READ READ ----- MAX current......

How much does this draw out of the box with various cells ??

Read the posts..didnt see anything about the screwdriver, but no biggie. Its still alive and kickin. :)

I dont have any way of measuring output, but by my eyeball meter, the beam is at least 2 times stronger than it was to begin with. I can see the dot on the clouds on a bright, moonlit night.

I purchased some Energizer e2 lithiums and they work ok, but they only seem to just last a bit longer than the regular alkies, not put out any greater continuous power. I bought 4 cheap 1000mah nimh batteries, and they produce a brighter beam than the lithiums. They get sucked dry quickly, but they don't take too long to charge.

Looks like I may have found a new obsession. ;D

Good for you ;D Now you will get meters, modules and all the good stuff !!

You are now HOOKED on lasers :D :D

Well, my laser and a fellow modder's RS laser have failed after modifications. I took my nimh's out and placed the lithium batteries in while they charged, and the green went poof.

Now, to wait for my DX 20mw to arrive. :p

Hey Everyone.

Ive been trying to understand how to build my own and bought tons of drivers, diodes, etc but i'm still learning. Got frustrated.
I bought the same Green Laser Pointer from Radio Shack, and got curious and found this link with these instructions.

How to Make a RadioShack Green Laser Pointer More Powerful

Model: 63-132

Instructions

1
Put a sheet of newspaper on a table. Remove the battery cap from the back end of the green laser pointer. Remove the batteries from the battery compartment at the back end of the green laser pointer.

2
Clamp the jaws of the pliers around the front end of the green laser pointer. Twist the pliers to separate the front end of the green laser pointer from the back end.

3
Pull the front end of the green laser pointer off the back end with the pliers. Put the front end aside.

4
Put the back end with the laser assembly that is now peeking out on the newspaper. Rotate the back end so that the circuitry of the laser assembly is facing up.

5
Put the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver into the slot in the single screw on the laser assembly. Rotate the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver a quarter turn clockwise to increase the intensity of the green laser pointer's laser.

6
Heat up the soldering iron for five minutes. Apply the tip of the soldering iron to the circuit block that is above the single screw. Remove the tip of the soldering iron after 10 seconds have passed to render the circuit block limiter ineffective.

7
Apply bonding glue around the rim of the green laser pointer's front end. Place the front end back onto the back end. Let the bonding glue set for a day.

8
Put the batteries back into the back end of the green laser pointer. Put the battery cap back onto the back end.

9
Aim the RadioShack green laser pointer at a far wall. Depress the power button to project a more powerful beam of laser light at the far wall.

Ive done everything it said other than increasing the pot. what i think i'm gonna do is drill a small hole so i can adjust the pot,
in step 6 where it says holding a soldering iron on the circuit block to render it ineffective, is where i got lost so maybe someone can define these instructions a bit better and hopefully someone can upload some pictures.

I hope this works and helps anyone trying modify this laser pointer.

now i have a question what would be a good way to drill a hole into your laser without a power drill?

weecho,
now i have a question what would be a good way to drill a hole into your laser without a power drill?

Well you have to make sure that you have it all apart, once you have the laser housing and driver out then you can caculate where the pot (potentiometer) is going to be before drilling .. if you don't have a drill.. you can try a dremel.

If you don't have either i hope you got some strong fingers and a sharp drill bit :yh:
