Ah darn, it’s still in its package and that makes me not want to open it/use it. BeO is literally the one thing I’m scared to death of. I’m scared if I play with the diode it will have extra dust on it, or I will accidentally drop it, chip some of the ceramic off while putting it on a heatsink and then breathing it in and eventually die. I’ve been reading as much as I can about c mount diodes and all I can find is “it’s an insulating block” hmm not very helpful :)

Might not have any beryllium in it, it is quite safe inside ceramic, if you don't grind it to turn it into an airborne dust, don't worry about it.

Alright thanks Chris, I’ll take your advice and not think too much of it and go ahead and have fun with my diodes that I have feared for months now without opening the package lol. So even if I say somehow chip a piece off the size of a pen tip as long as it falls down and can’t be airborn I’ll be fine? If so that sounds good to me

I've never seen one of those just chip on their own, but even a small chip you can't breath in won't be a problem.

If you are particularly paranoid, you can were a surgical mask while working with it. They are made to keep particulate matter from moving in or out.

Alright thanks for all the info guys it makes me feel like I can actually use them now. Also just got my hybrid ND:YVO4 crystal today, 5mm x 5mm x 3mm anyone interested in me posting pictures of it? It’s pretty neat and not the same as those Casix dpm0101 crystals

It is a very interesting little crystal. When I was experimenting with a crystal out of an eBay pointer the green was able to be seen out of my laser glasses so it might have been 540nm and above because that’s the end limit of my glasses, but this little gem produces right on the spot 532nm I can’t see through my glasses just shows up as white dot.
All of these links should work they are just different pictures in the same album. Tell me what you guys think about it!!

I saw one like that listed on ebay from a seller in Ukraine who pretends he is really in Europe, did you buy it from him?

I sure did. I emailed him and we started talking he’s a pretty cool guy really gave me a discount and everything and got here pretty fast (6 days)

i've purchased a few of those 561 nm LBO crystals from him, he communicates well too.

I was surprised how good his English is... anyway those 561nm crystals how are they doing for you? How do you even pump those?

I bought them because they can withstand the high power pulses from a YAG, but you need to use selective mirrors with a ND YAG, or a filter tuned to 1123 nm (rejecting 1064) to get SHG of 561 nm. Have just unpacked them yesterday, it may be a long time until I get to doing anything with them. An ND:YAG will produce more lines than 1064 nm, but that is its predominant line output. Other emission lines are at 946, 1123, 1319, 1338, 1415 and 1444 nm. . Some of these, such as the one at 1123 nm, are very weak, so that efficient laser operation on these wavelengths is difficult to obtain. ( https://www.rp-photonics.com/yag_lasers.html )

Wow didn’t think it had so many wavelengths...interesting maybe that will be my next project :) but for now that crystal needs no alignment what so ever you just throw it in front of the diode and Tada green light... do you think if I take a 808nm LED it would have the same effect? Just less powerful?

NO! It isn't a very efficient crystal set. You could only get that much focused light in such a small space with a laser. Can't even pump this one with a flash
lamp.

Oh alright makes sense! I’ve seen some people that pump them with a camera flash but I guess it won’t be possible with this one. Maybe I’ll build a heatsink for it because it is rated at 500mw of green output and like 3 watts of pump power or so I think
