Let us know how it goes. A sure fire way to deal with them is a 1W (1000mW) 445nm Laser from the pro shop here, they go for about 150-180.

Though an opto 150 is a decent starting foray into lasers.

Got the opto laser today. They wrote 171mw on the instruction peice of paper what it was out putting. Took out a bottle rocket to see if it will light it, but really kinda hard to aim the laser at the fuse and look in other direction cause my laser goggles havent arrived yet. so until the goggles come, I wont be testing out the burning and igniting stuff as I need to be able to look at the object so i know the beam is on the fuse. It shines really nice at night, was hitting the clouds and is pretty bright. It's fun watching the snow falling in the dark and making circle motions with the beam and illuminating the snow as it falls from the sky. Took some videos with my cell phone, but it's hard to show the beam at night with my phone. I'll have to use my camcorder to attempt to capture the beam on video if it can. I know the night vision option on it will most likely.

The build of the laser is really good, no plastic at all. The case it came with is really nice too!

I took it with me early this morning when I went out to service my snow plowing accounts very early this morning. Was able to shine it across the valleys on onto the mountains many many miles away. It is so bright and awesome! This afternoon I saw hundreds or wild geese hanging out on a huge feild and pulled over and shined it on the snow near them and they got up and ran away from it. It was kinda hard to see the dot as the sun was out and the geese were about 3000' away from where I pulled off on the side of the road. I wanna see if it will disrupt geese that are flying high in the sky in a triangle and see if they will break triangle and go in another direction. I really love this laser, money well worth spent imo.

Wow, glad your laser came out good. Just don't hit the poor geese with it! Its Also, guess what if you saw a group of geese then you saw a "gaggle" of geese! lol its funny what name they refer to different groups of animals with. A group of lions is a "pride" of lions, and its called a "buisiness" of meercats.

Kinda of funny reaction from a few people in vehicles when I was using the optro at night. First was I was shining it on the snow ground level in the thick woods and a driver stopped on the road and I guess was wondering what the light was. Other moment was last night, I was shining it through the dense woods up high by mid level tree tops, and beam went over the road into the thick woods acorss the road and a driver stopped for a min and was wondering what it was they saw. The beam was well over the road about electrical lines level high and they must of seen it. After they stopped, I didn't power up again, wanted to leave the persson in question about what it was they seen.

Also earlier yesterday, I noticed the laser works great on keeping crows from landing on trees. They take off everytime I shine it up in the trees during the day.

Battery life question...I would think that this laser would use batteries up pretty quickly? I'm running duracells in it now which are 1.5 volts. The instructions say not to use batteries that exceed 1.6 volts as it can shorten the life of the diode.

Please dont shine your laser across roads etc. It only takes a distraction like when the drivers stop to see what the green light was to cause an accident. Also be wary when pointing it to the sky of aircraft - laser pens got banned here due to people shining them deliberatly at planes. I know your not doing that, but just be wary of planes.

I don't have air craft that flys over my location, maybe you will see a personal air craft once every 3 years, or ballons every 4 years. Very rural area where I live. Reread my post, I wasn't shining it across the road at low levels, it was high up right above the utility wires. Unless you are pointing it straight up into the nights sky, chances are these high powered lasers will have their beam travel over roads seeing how long of a range they have (provided there aren't any trees obstructing the beam). Furthermore, seeing I live in a rural area, and usually you will see one car travel down the country road abour every 30 mins or more, there is no concern for a car coming to a stop and standing idle on a road. People here are already in tuned with the white tails runinng across the roads and drive slower at night.

Hmm Miami. Yep you won't see rural unless you head into the Glades I would imagine. Also lot of curious & nosey people be careful shinning around at night Sal.

I bet. It's unfortunate that in certain places You feel like a criminal sneaking around to use your lasers. The pursuit of Happiness sure has gotten a lot harder these days.:cryyy:

Very rural here, but thats what we wanted. To live out in the woods in an elevated area (745'). There are no street lamps here, which means 0 light pollution in the nights sky. When there is no moonlight you literally cannot see your hand in front of your face at night. Also no traffic and congestion which was another plus for us to move here. Lots of nature during the spring and summer. The locust sound really intense during the summer and the sound is just awesome to hear. We got lots of toads, and in early spring you can hear the new born toads peeping and that too sounds really awesome! I did notice a huge mosquito problem when we first looked at this property, but I got that under control by using the floating mosquito cakes which I always put into my ponds and atv bogs in the woods that usually are filled with water and mud. I also have increased the frog population here after digging out some mud bogs for my atv, and most recently dug out this little creek in the woods (which where the water always runs down the mountain) and made it into the size of a kidner shaped swimming pool, with deepest section about 4'. It's still a work in progress as I need to refine the waterfall, but looking forward to having the skunk cabbage grow around the pond and more frogs to call it home. more frogs = better mosquito control and other pesky insects.

On another note. I received my laser safety goggles today and when I put them on I can hardly see the laser in a dark room. At first I though the batteries died, but it was the goggles blocking the light. Perhaps in day light I will be able to see the laser more then at night.

I don't experiment in a dark room. First, I always turn on the light, put the goggle on then fire up the laser. All I have to see is the object I am pointing at and the laser's shiny dot. I don't care much about the beam when I'm using my goggles during experimenting. (Of course, I make sure that no kids are running around @ that time...that's why I use the lasers when either everyone is sleeping or no one is at home...or --> put up a pair of safety goggles just like me.) ;)

Kodiak450, now you have your glasses, you should go out and try and light off those bottle rockets :)
