Okay hey guys, my first post on laserforums! :p So basically it's a really long story, I saw DIY: Hack a Dead Computer into a Burning Laser! - YouTube and decided to do it. I got the diodes out of the DVD Drive, and I messed them up. (If you don't know what I'm talking about watch the video :p) However I didn't stop, I got the PSU Out and heatsink and clipped all the wires off the PSU, my plan was to rip the 100mw green laser driver and diode out of my 100mw green laser, and insert it into the large heatsink and place the fan on top. This would mean it would no longer need batterys and it would run for a long time without power loss as it was constantly remaining cool. But I have a problem, the circuit driver board thing *THIS* http://www.modwerx.com/shop/images/1.jpg Has a spring on it, how do I power it with the PSU as the PSU Has one positive and negative wires? thanks in advance, Mat (xSellize)

The spring gets the negative wire and the module (NOT DIODE - GREENS DON'T JUST USE A DIODE BUT A WHOLE MODULE OF OPTICS) gets the positive wire.

THE SEARCH BUTTON
OR

The "I want to build a laser" Threadhere
Please read the basics first if you ever want to accomplish this, making lasers in the videos seem very easy.
But it is actually very presice and sensitive.. and does require a lot of reading..
This forum has infinities of information for you, dont get too excited, take it one step at a time ;)
Good luck..

He means solder negative to the spring and positive to the case(Bronze bit)

Thank you, I've found two wires which give 3.41 volts I tested it with a multimeter, do you think that it will run fine with 3.41 as it requires 2 AAA battdrys which are 1.5volts each which means there 3v or should I buy a resistor?

You mean the batteries right, but 3.41V wont be problem as that will likely drop to <3V once under a load.

Alright so I hooked the negative to the spring and the positive to the brass bit, I turned the laser on using the switch and I got about 1 second of light and it turned off, I tried a few more times and that kept happening, now what? Please help :(

Hard to tell, what exactly are you using as a power supply? If you're using a computer's power supply know that there are additional parts needed to tell the power supply to stay on, it will turn off as soon as you start using it, without them. If you're not using a computer's power supply ignore what I said.
