Hi guys,
I need to mass produce a reasonably cheap device ( already over 1000 customers ), which would shoot a vertical laser line, thinner then 0.5mm at a distance of 110mm to 190mm , with a fan angle of about 110 degrees.
The first thing I tried was a simple 2$, fixed focus laser line module from ebay, but it did have a line about 2.5mm wide.
Next I got an adjustable laser line module, 3~5$ , but it did have a very bad focus depth and needed to be adjusted all time, which isn't good. customers want to just turn on the device and get a line, without adjusting it.
Next I ordered a custom made line laser from china, which they offered at 10$/piece if I would order 1000 units. But it's line quality was also pretty poor.
So I came up with an idea to get a laser and a "line generator" separately. Benefit would be obvious - I could order a "line generator lens" with a cut, so that it would mount into my device and always generate a vertical line.
What I wanted to ask - do I understand correctly that the distance from the laser to the "line generator" is not critical for line width, like +/- a few mm won't change anything? And the line width depends on the width of the laser dot, that hits the generator? Therefor I have to get a dot module, that produces the dot <0.5mm in diameter at a needed distance, pop a generator somewhere in front of it and I will get a nice, thin line, right?
Thanks!
