I allowed someone to use my Class 3b 650nm purple laser and requested them to not shine it in anyones eyes as it wasn't a toy... So the a**hole shines it into a girls eye DIRECTLY(obviosly on purpose as he seemed to have been aiming at her when I caught him). I didn't expect him to be that immature . So I showed that using a lens it easily burns through paper and pointed out that if he did cause a permanent scotoma that not only he would be in trouble (jail time?) but I could too for owning it and trusting him.

Never allow someone to Borrow your laser for 1

And what are you doing with your laser at school obviously? That means your using it with out goggles. You deserve to get in trouble. I hope that poor girl is OK and not scared for life. If you messed up her vision that horrible. You should put your lasers away for a year seriously!

That Is a lot of dumb things to be doing Kid!

Your just worried you could get in trouble. And thats the only reason you post.

don't let anybody use your lasers from now on. Also, you probably should not bring it to school. At least that sounds like the setting. I hope you had the balls to ask if the girl was OK?

IMO, this is not your hobby if you just want to impress others.

200% True but you know sadly 70% of the laser purchased are for show and party tricks and were going see more dumb stuff just like this

I seriously think that only 30% of "New Laser Owners" Are following the safety that is Required!!! Thats Very Sad.

You need to really think about what your doing with your lasers

Edit: 650nm Purple... WOW

You need to find out if that girl is alright. She could Possibly have permanent eye damage.

his tags for this thread are 500mW 650nm. Either he came here because of kipkay, or this guy rides the short bus. NO idiot would knowingly hand over a laser that hey know can burn something, that takes a complete jackass

All they do is PM a Member and send PP and then it comes in the mail. No to many people are able to test if the buyer is incompetent or just not that smart or both or just doesn't have the mental capacity to safety handle the laser.

It gos like this

Hey can I buy a 500mW Purple laser?

Do you know about laser safety and you need goggles and wont point it at air craft and people or buildings, and have $$$.00 in the form of PP account.

Yep I know, Where do I send the $$

some of my friends want to use my lasers in the garage at night, i just can't trust them!

they may think im lame for not letting them use them, but i value my fucking eye-sight, its as simple as that!

even if they manage to use a 50mw and shine it around, usually i'll close my eyes for the duration they are using it, if my safety goggles arent around.

some people just dont understand the dangers!!!!!

i was showing my sister the beam of a 450mw 532nm one, and she fucking put her hand in front of it !!! almost blinded us both.

I didn't bring it to impress anyone, it was just because it was my first Violet/blue laser (and my first high power laser pointer) and it was to exciting to not bring it, and I was misinformed. The FDA warning for 3Bs only mentioned the danger of direct beam exposure (at least on wicked lasers site) and since wicked lasers didn't package a pair of laser goggles (although it came with the tripod for free) I presumed that there was no need for them as long as I never pointed the beam at anyone. In addition, I didn't post just because I was worried about getting in trouble, I honestly felt fear and sorrow for her as I know what it is like to go through medical emergencies as I have Loeys Dietz Syndrome along with a slew of sub-diagnoses. Hell I wouldn't of posted it if I was just worried I would get in trouble as I know that by posting I put myself at risk.
I don't necessarily blame the kid as I remembered that because of my "disabilities" I have mentally matured faster and I am 18 whilst the kid was probably a freshman. I do realize that I do make mistakes, but so does everyone else. I was not used to handling a class 3B laser and I used it thinking that everyone would be safe as long as I told them the procedures... To bad they also needed to actually follow those procedures!
I will continue to ask the girl how her vision is (as problems can occur at any time) and tell her the whole story.

The saying goes "people do stupid shit" and it is true with even the most experienced people. I can't change what happened (as I have no time machine) but I will try to help her with any problems that arise. The problem is that I never knew that there were people who are that immature/stupid, so I trusted him when he asked to see it. I vow to never trust anyone with anything I own in the future, as they are likely to destroy something (including someone else's vision). The idiot did it most likely because he never heard of a high power laser, or because he figured that since he could only see the dot that it was not that powerful (it was a bright day).

1. Wtf does kipkay have to do with this, he's just a random YouTube poster who makes video tutorials. I was interested in lasers all my life.
2. Technically due to my physical disability I do ride a “short bus” to my high-school because I have to come in late, but that has nothing to do with my mental aptitude.
3. I didn't think that he would do something that stupid when I specifically instructed him about how powerful it was and not to shine it in anyone’s eyes. I guess I forgot about how well reverse-psychology works.

Sorry to rant but here was the argument afterward:
Me: "If it burns though paper using a simple lens what do you think it did to her eye you a**hole"
Him: "I can burn things with a lens by using the sun"
Me: "Well there is a lens in your eye and a beam this small can penetrate your pupil instantaneously and concentrate on the retina burning it after being concentrated by your eyes lenses"
Him: "Then why doesn't the light from the sun do that if it burns things with a magnifying glass"
Me: “The lens in your eye has too small of a surface area when compared to the magnifying glass; therefore, it cannot collect enough photons in a small enough space to create thermal burns, although if you did manage to stare at the sun for too long without reacting subconsciously (closing eyes/blinking) or consciously (feeling too much pain to continue to stare at it anymore and looking away), then you could burn your eyes to the point of total vision loss.”
