Holography just requires high stability of frequency and long coherence length. Single mode HeNes are used because they typically have coherence lengths around 100 meters and they are plentiful and efficient.

I got about 1.7 watts of 514nm at full current, and that was with a hot tube. The other lines produce less power, some significantly less.
