i just got a 1.2w 445nm rifle laser from lazerer and when i removed the lense i saw that there is some room around the diode. the duty cycle is 1min on, 1min off. it doesn't autoshutdown after a minute so i want to see if i can improve the heat dissipation. i have some ic diamond 7 which is non conductive or capacitive, so could i inject some of the thermal paste around the diode? also, i want to take the laser module out of the host to see if there is any more spots i could put the paste. does anyone know if this host allows safe removal of the laser module?

I think you've misunderstood the path the heat takes. Picture?

Regardless, thermal paste is bad for anything other than a very thin layer.

As said, it wouldnt help.. that's why they make custom heatsinks you see!!

As you describe it I don't see how thermal paste would hurt, but pics would really help.

Refer to Post #2 pertaining to the thickness of a useable
and effective layer of thermal paste.

Thick layers act as an insulator rather than a transfer
medium.
