I'm in love with my SLII also... I'll attempt a mini-review soon, but FYI my LaserBee said 2,093mW with the G-1 lens... amazing!

Speaking of the G-1, has anyone come up with a mod that adds some sort of extended focusing ring or something similar to the G-1? With the regular lens, I get 1,841mW, which is certainly "good enough", but it'd be nice to use the G-1 all the time, but it is basically impossible to focus without burning your fingers... you have to turn the laser off.

Any suggestions?

Nice output. :D

The SL extended focusing ring will also mount on the G-1 lens, you just have to remove the stock ring. It's a pretty tight fit though.

You just made my day! It didn't even occur to me to try. I just did it (with my bare hands even) and it works fine.

Just put my SLII on a tripod this time (was handholding earlier) and got 2,126mW... why do these damn things make me so happy? :)

The cooler they are the higher the power, try metering it in the morning. :)

Got my hands on a sufficiently powerful regulated DC power supply so I could really measure everything. My SLII pulled 1.16A @ 8.4V. Output peaked at 2,135mW. I feel a little pain for my LaserBee... Thanks again, Garoq :)

That sounds about right, at 85% driver efficiency that calculates to 1.80A to the diode at 4.6V.

Thanks for the comments! Good customer feedback is always the best sales tool.

So how do you like the extended focusing ring? :)

I love my SLI w/ Extended Focus Ring.:D

I can focus to a tight beam about 12 feet on my wall, then pop ballons floating around like a carnival shootout. Focused like this I can still burn though a piece of paper at 8-10 feet.
This long distance focus is great for pointing at stars, nice tight, straight beam. VERY BRIGHT! Everyone around me can see the beam with no ploblem.

If I focus the beam closer to the device it burns like a surgeons knife. I like to blow smoke into the beam and focus, I can see the tight beam(focus point) travel up and down the beam as I focus. Using it like this, it is important to say, YOU MUST WEAR YOUR GOGGLES!!

I can engrave things like I am writing with a pencil. It burns black surfaces instantly, but still burns other colored items, even white if I hold it steady long enough ( less than 1 min.)

None of these tests required ontime exceeding duty cycle of 1 min. on 1 min. off. It is hard to stick to this because it all so much fun. Most things burned or started to smoke with seconds if focused right.

I can't stress enough, any close up burning, engraving, lighting cigarettes, you MUST wear goggles.

I have not burnt my fingers once with the Extended Focus Ring.
I never did test the standard focus ring. I think I see what the results would be.....

All laser peformence tests the same, just some very warm finger tips to go with it.:cryyy:

2nd place in the Orange County science fair!
Impressive.

This seems like a very nice deal.
I especially like the "survival" aspect of lasers. I wonder the regularity of lasers used in this application.

Well it was a big deal back then.

I don't know how often the lasers are used in this application, but we have quite a few customers who are buying them for similar reasons.

This deal does not include the goggles or holster. It is only for LPF members.

so it is all completly same except goggles and holster?
does this bundle also include that springy thing for focus ?
and would it be cheaper to order this bundle + eagle pair goggles or to buy the other bundle already with the goggles included?

Pretty much. :)

Yes it includes the lens spring. I think this offer is a little cheaper with the goggles than the SL-001PBAR w/LPF discount, but remember you don't get the holster.
