My Bluray Build Tracking post

I'm new to the forum here, but I've been interested in lasers since I built my first diode laser pointer back in '91-'92 with my father. I was 13 and had a fascination. Back then our .5mw diode laser cost about $100 in parts to build, and the one we built was about the size of a 2c maglight without the reflector assembly.

Since then I've had a few decent lasers, most recently I picked up a 35 mw 532nm dpss laser in '04 and have used it with great joy since then, mostly when teaching kids about stars and constellations. (the nerdy kids are always more interested in the green laser than the stars)

A few years ago I looked into getting a bluray laser, and couldn't justify the expense, since then the prices have come down considerably.

Enter this forum:

I'm new here (first post actually) but not new to buying online or exactly new to lasers (though I have more interest than experience)

I've contracted with Forum member "laser-wholesaler" Who is also fairly new.

This thread is intended to keep track of the build, and to keep us both honest. (he agreed to this post being written before I paid him)

At laser-wholesaler's request, the price won't be discussed here (unless things go awry) but suffice it to say, I'm getting a good deal.

So far the specifications are these:

Customized host (to be determined asap, probably a 14500 or cr123 host)

custom heat sink

aixiz module w/glass lens

phr 803t diode running at my specified ma output (haven't decided yet though)

drlava's flexdrive

And shipping to my address in the US.

Projected delivery date is 2 weeks from now.

I've agreed to give an accurate summary of my experience with him.

I hope that this is the right forum for this, I didn't think it quite fit in with the BST section, and it is tracking a build of a BR, so if I'm wrong, please don't flog me too badly!  :)

The glass lens from aixiz is not the best choice for a bluray. This lens is coated for red, so it actually cuts down on bluray output. You would get better results from the aixiz acrylic lens, as it is not coated. Best choice would be a lens coated for 405nm.

He Says he has one to use.. I dunno?

I guess I'll ask for a plastic lens for the module then, thanks for the heads-up

Yeah, it will also reflect more back into the diode, shortening the life. Good choice. ;)
