I'm off work right now due to an injury and have taken up lasers as a new and fun hobby. Been doing all the newbie stuff like getting some appropiate goggles, buying some cheapie 405nm, 532nm stuff off the bay. So far I'm pretty impressed. The 405nm pen unit I got Saturday for 5 bucks burns stuff right away, the "MILITARY" laser 301 that I just got today for 12 bucks is >DAMN bright, does not seem to focus very well for burning, but it does burn. Definately don't want to be playing with that one without goggles on.:can:

Well, wish me luck as I step in.

Hi aardvark, welcome to LPF! Hope you recover well. Those are careful steps you took. Is yours the 301 with battery extender tube and set of keys for the lockout cap?

May I suggest you also add your location on your profile page?

It will help anyone if you ever need to buy something or if you have any problems with your lasers :)

Best of luck!

Welcome to the forum Peter. Sounds like you're off to a great start, would you mind sending me a link to the 405 laser you have, I have not heard of many pen lasers that focus well enough to burn without after sales modding.

Oh yes I see it now. I've seen that host before with a green output, a few reviews here too. Seems good value for what folk post but a bit of a gamble whether you'll get a good one or not.

Thanks for showing me.

Caution:

My wonderfully Bright 532nm "Military" 301 type laser from ebay has gone dim on me! I thought it was a low battery for sure because I had just got it a few days ago and was still on the same 18650 battery. I was right in the middle of playing with a black garbage bag when it started to go dim. So, I popped a new battery and I was like... WHAT?? are you kidding me? It was still dim. So, I sent an email off to the seller in china. He'll probably want me to send it back...blah blah blah. Hopefully, either he'll offer to just send me a new one or give a refund. I'm probably not going to like the option of sending it back, Gods know how much that will cost. Secondly a bummer that I ordered two more yesterday. :yabbem:

Its all good though because I kinda guessed that these would be too good to be true. I have some modules coming in(532nm 50-80mw, 405nm 100mw) and have some transplanting plans in the back of my mind. I will try to chronicle this rebuild for those who may be interested. I just love the way these cheap 301's are built. I think they will make great hosts. My first part of this rebuild will be finding a clean way to gut these babies without damaging them too much. I've been reading these forums for a few days with this thought in my head. I think the general consensus is that it is impossible because of the press fit. Fortunaly, doing the impossible is one of my specialties:beer:

Love the forums!
Thank you for having them!
A great bunch of people here!

So this is the official response from Ebay ID: ledgroup

sorry to hear that friend.
if so,i can offer 2 ways to slove it for you.
one is you return the item back,then i resend to you for free;
one is you pay another $5 ,i resend the item from our US warehouse and you don't need to return it back;
what's your idea or suggestion?
waiting for your early reply,then i will know how to solve it for you,ok?
thanks a lot.

*************
I think I'll opt for the get another for 5 dollar option. Disect the one that just went dim and figure out how to turn this thing down a little to keep it from destroying itself.

Caveat emptor. I sympathise with your situation. It sounds like paying $5 is the cheaper way. But you could also decline the offer for the moment and cut your loss. Wait out to test the condition of the other 2 you additionally ordered. Build up your conclusion from there.
