    General scanning HI MARK 400

Someone has this: GENERAL SCANNING HI MARK 400 LASER | eBay for sale, and I can't really find any useful intel about it. I know it's an engraver, but could it also be used for anything heavier than engraving (after some modding), or is it just a waste of space (pun intended). Thanks in...

22X Samsung driver only class I?

Bought a few of these drives today, but bummer!! There's no such thing as a 5,6 mm diode inside. It's a small one, which is mounted in a square piece of cast aluminium. I had a laser diode mount, which I ripped out of a prehistoric HP laserprinter, and it gives a nice sharp beam, @ 220 mA...

    Goggles

Just as it says on the tin, since I value my eye sight too much, I have no desire to fry my retina(s), so I was thinking whether for DVD-red lasers glasses like used in goggles for autogenic welding are safe enough? Alternatively I also have glasses used for arc welding, but with those...

    Tweaking a He-Ne laser.

Still begs the question, how come the emitted light is red, and what are the rods made of, any idea?

    Tweaking a He-Ne laser.

That's what I call a swift reply, I always thought that in these kinds of lasers ruby was involved, my bad then. Thanks for the heads up.

    Tweaking a He-Ne laser.

I've got a few melles-griot tubes and by the looks of them, there are 2 ruby rods at both ends, and in the tube itself is a He-Ne lamp. The power is about 1 MW, so that's peanuts. I was thinking of removing the middle part, and putting a Xenon bulb like used in automotive lightning between the...
