I'm a novice in this area but in my opinion the heatsink is probably a very crutial part. especially on a high powered laser. SOmething I'll have to remember when I start my first build in a few months.
Thanks mike. I've done some research on it already over the past few hours, but i think its going to take a few weeks for me to get a full grasp of how a laser works. Rushing it is probably the biggest mistake so i'll take my time
This is quite embaressing but I'm a complete noob at laser builds, but I want to build one. What components should be on my shopping list? What pitfalls should I be aware of during my build?

An excellent selection of builds my friend. Didnt know there was such a big community for lasers. I see my hours disappearing on this site! :)
Buying Pre made lasers is easy, but building one is alot more fun. Sure its tricky but it makes yours unique. I haven't tackled it just yet but I definately will be. got all the tools just need the guidance and a steady hand.
