hey what is a br? im new to making lasers! what do i have to watch out for?

i am trying to build a blu-ray laser pointer, what is the limit on the voltage i can put to the diode? if i get a driver will it regulate the power?

are they dangerous to your eyes? i keep hearing you need goggles to play with blu-ray laser pointers.
