    Link to pizza cutting laser!

I wonder what the power rating for that beast is would make me a nice Christmas present (hint hint)

thought I killed my diode today

Thanks greyfox So as the diode got warmer it would need more current to produce the same amount of light? and as I only supplied a limited amount of current of around 200mA it could not get the required amount of current needed Does the forward voltage of the diode also change as the voltage...

thought I killed my diode today

I have my diode still partially mounted in the dvd burner heatsink sitting inside a battery case and accidently bumped the power switch while in my pocket when I pulled it out several minutes later it was very warm and only had a faint red dot I switched it off and on again a few minutes later...

    What is a TO-18 package???

What I meant to say is I cant wait to they produce the same spec diode as you posted with a wave length of 630'ish instead of 808 for the same price sorry if I confused the issue

    DIY Homemade laser diode driver

hey thanks all for a better explanation and answer to my question my first driver I built is using the bd140 and bc557 with a 3ohm resistor and 1 ohm in series with the LD to measure current on the V scale 10mV reading = 10mA right? and a 8v4(9v) battery as Vdrop was across the transistor and...

    2-PNP laser driver (easy!)

so in referring to my earlier post I can use this circuit with my LD using say 8v4 in and a LD needing 2v8~3v2 as apposed to ddl's circuit witch gives a Vout-3Volts of the input I am still lost in new technology but want to learn more or keep up to date at least I understand v=I/R I=VxR and...

    2-PNP laser driver (easy!)

Am I understanding this correctly that this circuit also can also limit the voltage to that required of the LD ? 6v from 2xcr123 =6vv 4xNiMH 4.8 and 3xNiMH 3.6 (a bit tight) ? as a normal power diode has a forward Vdrop of about .6 volts and and LD of around 2.8~3.2 volts is this circuit using...

    another addition to ddl's circuit

hi chimo I have looked at data sheets for the 1n4729 and it shows Iz=69mA and the BZX55C3v6 having only 5mA would I be correct in thinking that that is the current needed for reverse breakage breakdown to make this device regulate if that is the case then the 1n4729 is definitely out of the...

    another addition to ddl's circuit

I was previously thinking about using a 7806 or zener regulator to supply DDL's circuit then tonight had another idea which may prevent over voltage should the LD disconnect from the circuit (ie giving full charge to capacitor) would be to put the zener/transistor configuration after the current...

    DIY Homemade laser diode driver

I was only thinks of the LM7806 to reduced the voltage down to 6volts then using ddl's circuit to limit the current with the added resistor 1 ohm to measure voltage (current) flowing into the LD Another idea was to use a npn transistor 6v8 zener diode and 100 ohm resistor to give a stable 6v2...

    DIY Homemade laser diode driver

Would this circuit work using the 7806 as the voltage regulator to run of a 9v battery And the added 1 ohm resistor is this the correct place to measure current with a volt meter ?

Simple driver circuit would it work

I believe by using a standard pnp transistor with a zener diode would give you a fairly accurate voltage regulator I think that zeners are available as 2.7 and 3.3 v which would just leave the resistor of around 19~24 ohm depending on which zener was used Would this work in practice ? if it...

    help with first project

Latest I tried through lack of burning power was with 3x aa batteries 3.6V and I had heat 10~15 sec on my hand with a black dot and the heat was quite alot and also burned tiny holes in a black plastic bag so YES finally I have a toy will post some pics when I can but I think I need a few more...

    help with first project

When I was testing the burning LD I was using 2x NiMH rechargeable AA batteries and got a reasonable amount of light took a while to get it focused but it did not seem to have any heat even shining it on my skin with a black dot from a marker pen I measured the current and the brightness dropped...

    help with first project

I have just dissected the diodes out of my asus 8x DVD burner and the process was quite simple but one of the diodes had an extra piece on the top about 1.5~2.0 mm cube I assumed this was proberly the IR diode so applied power to it and it emitted a red light but not very bright I then applied...

    help with first project

it was not my main intention with this diode to burn things but to get a little practice with the 'getting it all working without killing the diode' The main thing I wanted to know is that pictures I have seen of higher power diodes from DVD drives look similar to the 10mW one and was...
