ok. that explains it. i wonder if you could use a single laser, and split the beam a couple times after the first mirror before hitting more spinning mirrors? i really like the effect. i just don't have 11 spiros. :-/

the ebay kits are reasonable. they will work fine. you might be able to go cheaper if you source the parts individually, but then you have to pay multiple shipping charges etc. the drivers are also fairly large, and designed to run on 9 volts. the flexdrive...

thanks guys.  i did cut the mirrors myself, from regular glass mirror.  i had intended to replace them with first surface mirrors, but found they worked great.  i don't see any "ghosting" of the pattern.  the diode is running at about 50ma, and doesn't get warm at all.  i've cranked it up a bit...
