thanks guys. i did cut the mirrors myself, from regular glass mirror. i had intended to replace them with first surface mirrors, but found they worked great. i don't see any "ghosting" of the pattern. the diode is running at about 50ma, and doesn't get warm at all. i've cranked it up a bit...
