Default O-like 200mW Waterproof (Pic Heavy)

Hello,
I know that there was just another review on the same laser.
But I decided to post my review anyways because I think that you can never have enough reviews.

First the shipping:
The shipping took a long time. This is not really O-like's fault though. China customs held a bunch of orders for a few days, and I guess the Iceland volcano delayed a bunch of shipments. Overall it took about a month from my order date.

The Package:
The packaged arrived in great condition. The label on the box entitled "Sun Glasses as Gift". Which is good so that it doesn't get caught by customs.
The box was well padded and the laser came inside of a nice little case for storage and what not.

Performance:
I don't have a LPM but this thing seems like it is up to par. It burns just about anything that isn't light colored. And even a few light colored things. It lights matches, cuts electrical tape, engraves certain woods, and lights firework fuses in an instant.

The Focus is pretty nice. It focuses fairly easy. The only con that I have with it is that it started squeaking (just needs some lube). That gets a little annoying while your focusing though.

The Waterproof works great. I submerged it inside of a bowl of water for a good 15 minutes. It focuses fine under the water. When I took it out of the water I removed the battery to check to see if any water slipped through and it was bone dry.

As far as the Beam goes. It is a lot better than I thought it would be (but it is no green laser). I was under the assumption that I would not see the beam at all with a red laser of this power. To my surprise, you can see the beam quite well. You cant see the beam indoors. You can however see the beam pretty good at night. One thing that I noticed is, if it isn't humid or muggy out, you can only see the beam if you are looking down the laser (like a gun sight).
But on humid and muggy nights the beam is clearly visible from just about any angle. Tonight it was very muggy here, lots of water moisture in the air. It left for some pretty cool beam shots.

Overall it is a very good buy for $53. The only thing that you might have to worry about is the shipping. Or maybe it was just me being to excited and impatient.

-----------------------------------------------

And Here are the pics....

First some close-ups of the laser itself:

A size Comparison with my other lasers:

As you can see, it is a pretty decent size. Not to long, and pretty slim compared to my other two lasers.

And for the Beam Shots....

These first three beam shots were taken outside with no smoke or anything. Just a good muggy night.

The next three beam shots were taken in doors with some fog from my fog machine.

-----------------------------------

Thanks for reading my review

Great review, great photos, great laser.

Care to only explain what power is the green laser used in beamshots?
Would give a great insight.

Also, care to masure the current draw from the battery?

It would be great to know such things in every laser unit.

Thanks a lot ,

The green laser in these photos is fairly week. 20-30mW. I had a 100mW green for about 2 hours (before I broke it) and the beam was about 2-3 times brighter than the green one in these pics.

also, I really have no idea how to measure the current draw. I am kinda of new to this stuff. Care to explain?

EDIT: Also, thanks for the rep. +rep back.

How to measure the current?
Very simple.

First, insert the battery in the laser but don't thread on the tailcap.
Next, grab your DMM (Digital MultiMeter), switch it to 10A mode and plug the probe into 10A socket properly.

Then, touch the battery with one probe and the host with the other (usually the non-anodized threading). The current will flow from the battery, into the DMM and then out the DMM into the laser again.

Read the current displayed.

But be carefull ,when you touch the host and batt to measure, laser will light up, so don't get any eyes in the beam's path.

O its that easy, lol. duh.

I have a DMM in the garage. I will measure the current and post it back tomorrow.

thanks

Yeah, it's real easy to do, but results are very informative - it's tell us total power consumtion, expected battery cycle, amount of heat produced by the laser and even the diode lifetime.
All that will tell us the true quality of the laser.

Also, try measuring the current when the battery is full ,and near empty.
It will tell us the type of driver used and efficiency of battery cycle.

Not bad for 5 second experiment, huh?

Well, turns out my DMM sucks and doesn't do 10A. Unless I am dumb and just cant figure this thing out lol. It just has DCV and ACV.

That would be Direct Current Voltage and Alternating Current Voltage.

That will only measure volts...
No amps.

DAMN.

Well, DMMs are very cheap these days, you can find some at DX for like $5 or something IIRC.

But it's not that quite important actually, main thing is that the laser you bought is working up to your expectations.
