Hello people. I just put my hands on some broken dvd players and writers. In the first dvd player I found a sled that's in first picture. It's from a hitachi gd-7500. I don't know witch one is the IR and red diode. Also the sled in the second picture is from a combo dvd-cd-wr drive. I got out the 1st diode, second yet to extract. The third sled Toshiba sh-s182 18x dvd-wr drive had a weird sled. Black plastic and couldn't find any regular diodes. Only 2 plastic maybe-diodes. But they don't look like any other diode i've seen on this forum. Could they be used?

Also what power ratings can I expect from the normal ones? From dvd player and dvd/cd-wr combo?

The first sled is not worth the trouble (reader) The third sled uses the rectangular plastic diode. They have not been tested thoroughly. Although preliminary tests do show promise. I'd stick to 5.6mm diodes and forget about the plastic ones.
Reader=50-70mW Burner=200+mW W/good heatsinking.
