Default Looking for info on my first build

as the title goes im looking for some info or links to building my first pointer.
i bought a pocketmini from jayrob a few years back and fell in love with it
and after substantial digging ive realized i would like to build my own.

a few bits of info
1- im looking for a simple build for star gazing, NOT burning a hole
in my neighbors cats or popping balloons.
2- im looking at a few "diy kits" from jayrob but unfortunately
i dont really understand the majority of jargon associated with building
3- im on a relatively small budget.

any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

blue or red

You'd need about 250mw of red to get nice beam, imo.
a diode from 6x burner would be pretty good
